I often think that Gil is the one always coming up with the good deals. Well, I realized today that I got lucky, too. I acquired a Remington 513-T from a church friend couple years back. The rifle had no sights and as far as I can tell, had never been fired (the bore was clean as a whistle).

I've collected magazines and sight inserts as time has gone by. I snagged a Redfield rear sight off ebay last week. Now my 513-T, made in November 1945, is complete with vintage sights.

Great to see those old guns put to work! I have a Remington 510 (basically the same rifle as yours but a single-shot) manufactured about the same timeframe as yours. Like yours, it seems to like those off the shelf ammo. Seems like those old rifles aren't as picky as today's offerings!
Have all kinds of fun and keep that old gal busy!

Looks like you have yourself a real fun tackdriver there mate. From memory, the old .22 rim fires were designed with the 40 grain roundnose bullet in LR. They don’t shoot anywhere near as well using the new high speed offerings with lighter projectiles.

My old Lithgow Model 1, came out of the factory in July 1946, shoots best with the basic Federal Champion offering and also does well with Remington SubSonic. Any rabbit within 50-60 metres is in trouble, a real world of hurt.

You guys bring back the memories. I ran the rifle range at the local Boy Scout Camp in my early teens. The camp had Mossberg target rifles. When my assistant and I got the range to ourselves, we played two games. We would place nails on the crossbars and see if we could drive them in (the true meaning of a tack-driver) or we just shot flies. And that was how I got started in shooting.

great stuff,Im another who learnt on a single shot remington....that one you needed to pull back the cocking lever/back of bolt to cock...it too was a tack driver and was happy with most ammo.

I advertised before Christmas for a M8 3 or 4x scope as I really rate the one Ive had for the last few years...well a nice chap got in touch he had a good one and another that had tumbled off back of ute along with shooter one night when they cornered too fast...I got them BOTH for $200 NZ ...got them home and they are in awesome condition....almost as good as the refurbed one I already own...one now sits on my BHSR 7.62x39mm and the other which is even shorter sits on the .22lr
they look the part and with a bit of force to shift the dials that were practically siezed from non use they are doing the job.
