Nice, m146. However, that whitetail looks like its just below the minimum size to harvest in Texas.

whats the min size in texas? I have never hunted there , or even seen a texas deer, but I heard most of them were tiny. I mean, compared to those we have here in the midwest that is.

Deer typically are smaller bodied the warmer the climate gets. In an effort to get a more mature buck population a minimum antler size was enacted.

"An inside spread measurement between main beams of 13 inches or greater"

Basically, the inside of the antlers have to be wider than the ears.

Thanks,all.

Like Uncle Ted says,"Backstraps, baby". In reality I would rather bag a nice size doe for the meat. But someone's gonna shoot him. I wouldn't mind being the one. Wink

Slim, do you think it's correct that your government interferes and put a lower limit on antlers? I would have problems with that, but we only have roedeer. Our management is based on harvesting the small animals and let the big bucks do their thing with the does. Occasionally we harvest a big buck when he's old, lost his fight with a younger buck or did get hurt by accident or so.
When you always have to shoot the big ones (weight of the animal + size of the antlers), isn't your average size and weight not decreasing?

For the bigger deer our laws are also protecting the middle class, but I'm still hoping that one day they pay more attention to the shape of the animal's body than to the size or the form of it's antlers.

Thanks all...

My concern now is the time of day he presents. Looks like he's a light sleeper.

Sure wish I has some daylight photos to share. That would make me feel better.

Time will tell. Still have a few weeks left for him to change his patterns.
