Which do you prefer for your loads?

I have a couple cans of IMR, but lots more Hodgdon... mainly because its so much easier to find. How about you guys?

Howdy Dallan. I have used both but would have to say the hodgon extreme powders due to there consistancy with temperature change. I use to use imr 4320 for a 308 and i loaded it right up there!! 40 degrees was fine 70 - 80 degree days bolt was hard to open i use to put my bullets in the fridge and put them in a lunch box with a ice pack and go to the range people thought i was nutz Shocked but it was a huntin load i wanted to know what it did in cold weather. With the extreme powders i don't have to worry about the temp. I'm realy hooked on varget that stuff rocks!! Smile

With a few exceptions, I use Hodgdon's and Vihtavuori . I buy Varget 8 lbs. at a time!

I have used both, but prefer IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and IMR 4350 and have never had a problem with temperature changes. The loads I have worked up are swell and I am too old and too cranky to experiment with some new fangled powders. All the best...

Hi DallanC....hang onto those IMR "cans"...you can't get them anymore Very Happy Now that Hodgdon owns the IMR brand, all the IMR now comes in plastic jars just like the Hodgdon. They did keep the same color scheme as the old IMR cans so as not to confuse us I guess. Confused

Howdy. Knifeboy. It went well i didn't freeze them just put them in the fridge and then a lunch box with a ice pack to keep them cold. I wanted to see how they shot in the cold. People thought i was gonna have lunch Smile and then i would pull a bullet out Shocked they thought i was nutz. ( It makes sence to me though )

Am I the only one still loading WW 748 and 760? I use the 748 for 223 and the 760 for things like a 308 with a 190 Sierra MK. Also use AA 1680 and AA 2015.

About the only Hodgdon powder I use a lot of is Varget. I've always got Reloder 7 & 19 on hand as well. Almost everything else is IMR. I use all of their rifle powders and in recent years have also developed a fondness for VihtaVouri. I don't know what the legal limit is for the amount of powder we're allowed to have in our home is, but probably I've exceeded it. Best wishes.

How do you like Retumbo? I've thought on an off about using it in my 7STW but havent seen much discussion on it.

That was pretty much what I had to say, but I'll add, the Hogdon powders also seem to meter much better, than IMR(which is good, but I also LOVE the Extremem powders since I like to work up hunting loads in the summer months----something fun to do!).. Smile

I'm glad this topic was posted because I really wasn't certain what I have on hand. I just went down to my reloading room and checked. The results are:

Varget
H870
Reloder 7
Reloder 19
IMR 4198
IMR 4320
IMR 4831
IMR4350
IMR4831
IMR4895
Norma200
Norma201
Norma203
Norma204
Norma205 (MRP)
VihtaVouri 133
VihtaVouri 550
VihtaVouri 560
WW748
WW760

Good grief. I didn't know I had so much powder on hand. Maybe it's time to cut back a bit. A lot of it is rarely used. Best wishes.
