I'm going to be loading for the 32magnum and was wondering if anyone has any pet loads. I haven't loaded for pistol before. Had to buy a Lee auto-disk powder measure, anybody use one?

I have a Ruger single six and I found a site that offers a scope rail for it, thought I'd give it a try. I always loved that gun but with aging eyesight it's been in it's case for years unshot. Loaded ammo is not easy to find around here. The most I can come up with is 32 Long or 32 ACP. Well anyway just before Christmas I ordered some carbide dies, should get them this Friday.

I bought some Unique and some 85gr hollow points. I have brass that I saved over the years, and about 2 boxes of loaded ammo, so I won't have to buy brass for a while. OK SO newbee to loading pistol....pet loads...any suggestions, pointers, insults, offers (like new car or vacation homes)? Very Happy

Suz

Suz, I like the .32 H&R. I have a couple; a S&W 431PD and a Ruger SP-101. A buddy has a Ruger Single Six and we've chronoed 115 grain cast bullets at 1200 ft/sec from his, but I think that load was awfully hot! I sure wouldn't try it in the S&W.

Loading straight walled cases is easy, especially with carbide sizing dies. One thing I do is trim all the cases to the same length to insure a consistent crimp. You only have to do this once. I just crimp in the cannelure provided and let OAL fall where it may.

The last batch of .32 H&R Mag I loaded consisted of a Hornady 100 grain XTP over 11.0 grains of Hodgdon Lil Gun. I haven't chronographed them but the manual says they'll go about 1200 ft/sec from a 5" barrel.

Suz,
Unique is a good powder for moderate to warm loads.
According to some old records I was using 4.4 and 4.5 grains with a Speer 85 grain bullet and a CCI500 primer. There was a bit of ash but accuracy was good - 2" 5 shot groups at 25 yards from a revolver.
My velocities were at 1076 fps.

Oh yeah, I'd recomend a "red dot" instead of a scope on your Ruger. Much easier to use in my experience: no critical eye relief, better field of view. I'm using a Millett on my Super Redhawk and it replaced a 2-to-6X scope.

Thanks guys I thought I had a scope for it....dunno where it is...I picked up the Unique because my reload manual shows it can be used for 32long and 32mag. with the various (not very many) weight bullets, and my ammo guy had some handy. I'm so antsy to get goin, I just get the buying mood going and I'm off to the store, or the internet.

So how cheap can I go on a red dot and be good? I've tried one on my SKS and it had a paralax problem (I broke it, in return for the bad performance) it was like a BSA or something from China for $30 or so. I'd try one again, I like the way they work, but I need to know a cheapo that will be good to me.

PaulS I swear I'm gonna do better than 2" @ 25yds. I used to pop bunnies in the head with it years ago, never did any target shooting, but I bet I can do better. I can't wait!!!!

I bought some camo paint and some stencils today to re-do my Savage .17hmr, the camo on it looks horrendous and ugly. I have to stop buying things.....but some people gave me cash for Christmas....whatm-I-supposed-to-do, sit on it???? Oh yeah and I ordered a new Hornady manual. All this time off is killin my check book and credit cards.

Can't comment on loads for the .32 Mag...never had one...but the sight problem is one I can remember with much angst.

Like Punkin, I would favour a red dot or hologram sight. There are plenty of red dot or hologram sights made in either the USA or Europe that will suit your needs. I have a Tasco PDPS 4 that I occasionally put on my Mod 94 Winchester lever gun and it does the job nicely. The Aimpoint range is supposed to be pretty good as well. These sights are made to handle the recoil of semi auto IPSC or Bianchi pistols, so they are certainly rugged enough to handle anything the 32 Mag can deal out. Shooting with two eyes open may not always provide tack driving accuracy, but it will solve the problem of aging eye-sight.

Cheers, Vince

The Millet like I'm using is about $70 from Natchez. I figure if it holds up on the .44 Mag its pretty decent.

Suz, with a single shot (like a Contender) it is easy to get less than 2" but with a revolver it is harder unless you get the gun tuned. Ruger makes a great gun so I will look forward to seeing how you do.

Pumpkin, don't think that when it holds a .44 RM it will hold up for anything. I've been using Barska red dots and on my .44 RM they were OK, but when my friends were using them on a .357 RM it was a disaster, they were good for garbage after about 5 shots! (and not once but several times!)

Guns transmit there energy and vibrations in different ways !!!

Weight and design of the gun are factors that are often overlooked variables.

The mount itself can also be a contributing factor.

Hi Suz - Love the Ruger single-six. Wiegand makes an excellent scope mount for this revolver. If you can't find one using a web search, I'll dig through my stuff and post the address for you. The mount for the single six uses the existing screw threads - no tapping. For Ruger Blackhawks, Wiegand also makes a mount. That one requires drilling and tapping two holes.

I have both, and am very happy with them.

Thanks Marty good to hear about the mounts because I have one on the way, should be here tomorrow!! I'm glad you're happy with it, cause I didn't know what to expect, it's sounds sort of questionable. Can't wait to try it out. Still need a red dot to go with it, or a scope.

Suz, the latest issue of "Handloader" magazine has some .32 H&R Mag loads in it too.

Suz, I think you'll like the magazine. I've decided to quit subscribing to a number of the ones I used to get but "Handloader", "Rifle" and "Successful Hunter" will stay.
