With the introduction of Tungsten Matrix/Hevi-shot/Steel Shot in my country - and yours too, I believe, to preserve (?) wildlife areas and prevent lead poisoning in the wildlife - given the plethora of digital cameras, phonecams and video equipment available to all the Tree Huggers out there, how come they aren't using the piled up corpses of dead animals that have been poisoned by the hundreds of years of us throwing lead around? I'm sure that if lead were as dangerous as it's made out to be, we would be knee deep in Mallard and Carp carcasses by now! I am equally sure that if animals, fish and birds were being poisoned at the rate they suggest, then they would have jumped on the bandwagon with all the evidence that should (theoretically) be laying around? Could there be a hidden agenda here? If you can't take the guns from the people, how about making it so expensive for them to shoot that they will voluntarily cease their hobby? Call me cynical if you will, but I find more than an inch of plausibility in this theory. What do you think?

I won't call you cynical, I'll call you correct.

If you think that is stupid, my uncle is in from southern Michigan. The deer there are almost as big of a pest as they are down here. At the Detroit AIRPORT they have a special hunt because the deer are causing plane wrecks. Destroyed crops are norm. BUT, instead of extending the seasons, increasing limits, adding special hunts, the tree hugging morons (yes, I repeated myself - so?) don't want ANY hunting, they want the deer poisoned to control the population.

The more I hear the more I can't believe what I hear.

Well it was pretty well proven AFTER the fact here that the lead shot was a scam . Have been several attempts to tax guns and ammunition to the point that you'd give it up ...

It seems that lead, a natural metal occurring in nature, is more dangerous to humans shooting in a closed environment, casting bullets or fishing weights.

You have to remember that lead can be used as a weapon also. We had a rifle range in Greenbelt, Md. that had been there for many years. A land developer got hold of the surrouding land. He wanted to build townhouses and apartments there. He immediately complained of the noise and cited the range as presenting a dangerouse condition to human habitation. We have a law in Maryland that says you take the land as you find it. The developer knew of the conditions when he purchased the surrounding land so it was ruled he had no case. The gun range won the case. Sounds good for us doesn't it? It wasn't. The week after the suit was thrown out of court, state officials suddenly appeared at the range with their little metal counters taking readings all over the range. During part of the year a small stream runs through the property. The state claimed it was a hazard and immediately shut down the range until the lead contamination could be cleaned up, at a cost of several million dollars. That range had been in existence for about 40 years so the lead content was substantial. The range couldn't afford the cleanup and was closed. No one had ever complained previously. What at first apears to possibly be a good law turns out to be yet another way to shut the shooters down. It's enough to make you ill. Best wishes.

Hi Cal. Sounds as though it would have been cheaper to divert the stream there mate! Couldn't you have run it through a concrete pipe whilst it was on your ground - or am I still thinking in terms of English "ground", i.e. a couple of hundred yards to half a mile?

No because some retard with a government clip board would declare it a wetland and ban any and all "development" of the land.

Arizona Game and Fish regulations request elk and deer hunters use all copper bullets in areas where condors are found. They cite some studies that suggest there is a lead ingestion problem IF condors feed on carrion that have been shot with lead bullets. Of course, it seems to this hunter that the condors would have to pick the lead out of the jacketed bullet to ingest it in the first place. Still, the issue of lead toxicity is something that can used in the arsenal of the anti-gunners/anti-hunters.

OTOH, my experiences with the new Barnes TSX and Barnes handgun bullets on game relegate jacketed bullets to a past tense situation. The performance of the Barnes bullets has been spectacular not only for me but many of the hunters I have guided for elk, deer and bear.

Except of course, for those thousands of cast bullets I shoot annually from various handguns at a ratio of 1 Barnes for every 500 cast!

If you reload and take the common sense precausions such as washing your little mits before stuffing them into your upper frontal hole the only lead poisoning you can get is one traveling at over 600 fps. Argue

This is gettin' tiresom...If you are afraid of lead (without the "poisoning") stay away from firearms, don't eat the paint on the window sills, don't fish, don't reload....In fact don't live....I bet if you ate a lead bullet you would just void it into the toilet. I have friends who have been carrying lead in their bodies sense Viet Nam. Their lead count is normal or below normal. Please get off the fear of lead poisoning and reloading...It won't happen. I've been work around lead and lead based product all my life and I'm O K...I'm O K...I'm O K............................................Really, I am... Insane
