Busy at the shop....ugh! Aint been able to shoot the matches with the 1911. Damnit! Mad

Plus- there's Fire Restrictions on now- so now target shooting (firearm) in the forest.....

Got bored...picked up the 68", hit me little "ravine range" behind my camper. Fun keyhole shooting between bushes. Pretty rusty- had to install the "crutch" (single pin sight) as I lost all feel for it cuz it's been years....

But sooo much fun, I forgot how much fun!

1- target bag: 25y or so....
2- 68" longy. Shooting on a slant.
3- halfway decent group.

Weeeeeee!

Good work Stovey, a very nice group indeed mate. I gotta find a place to do this myself.

Never complain about having too much work in your own business mate, it means you are doing well, surviving and paying the bills.

Ok, stovey, nice group but don't you have to move the pin down to get the group in the center of the target?

Current sticks....

L- Martin Jag recurve T/D #50 I got used, bare no string or sight at a yard sale for 50$. You can Robin Hood snap shooting this thing it will drive tacks and it hits pretty hard with the 200gr Snaro. REAL hard. Like doves go POOF hard. Laughing

R- PSE Legacy 68"/#45 flatbow. Love this thing. Like buttuh. Took the leather wrap off and it's nice under there- petite waisted grips are the best since you don't actually "grip" a bow like a gun. The "crutch" or pin sight is gone soon too...I taped it on for easy removal. Looks awful on there. So did that wrap. I like my flatties nekid.

Couple more sticks in the works, too.

They look awesome mate. I have two bows, one, a recurve, that is homemade from poly pipe and pulls about 45-50 lb...the other is a 50lb compound. I have to find somewhere I can go to shoot both and learn how to extract the best performance from both the bows and myself.

Stovey, them feathery little buzz saws are out there mate, fattening up just for you.

stovey, I always grouped well shooting instinctively - except for the first shot. But the one that counts - so I started using a pin so the first shot was good. When I added the peep, I had to move back to 30 yards so I stopped shooting the fletchings off.

Yer beter en me with a stick bow! Intuitive stick bow shooting is a lot like shotgunning. It takes eon's of practice. But once the pointing starts and the thinking stops the hits come easy. My buddy hit's pine cones tossed over his head with a self bow. Pretty impressive. I'd never try that, it takes to long to make my arrows! I took the crutch and the hand wrap off last night. It feels SO much better in hand totally naked and since I taped the sight on there's no holes. Lamp oil cleaned off all the goo from the tape and leather wrap. Not sure why I stuck that wrap on there, guess cuz it came with the bow. I might stick a less obtrusive sight back on or mark the riser with nail polish if I can't get my "eye" back. Yer right the first hit counts so....do what ya gota. It's only a sin to use a sight aid on a stick bow if yer a snob. With the recurve it's like a pistol just aim and hit with the pin sight it's too easy. Lot's of folks poppoo PSE but I love this stick bow it's very minimalist and these type are hard to find now, unless you go BEAR Montana (pretty close to this bow pattern) and those are pretty far out of my budget. The PSE Sequoia is close to this pattern. The Cabella's Frontier is a dead wringer for this PSE- not quite primative but still pretty sparce and low handed for a center cut. (edited for accuracy sorry Mad )

I also pulled the string on a new one last night from Lancaster.

Samick Sage. 68"/#45 $199.00 They've been around. Proly made in China but oh well...

This newone fills the gap between the Legacy and the Martin take-down recurve. It's much higher handed than the Legacy with a larger shelf and should be really nice to shoot once I find a string it likes.

It's funny really how much archery tuning is like reloading/load tuning.

Tons o' Fun yesterday....

Got to do some intuitive shooting with the 68" with the crutch and hand wrap off. Kind of a tan line on there now, that should go away. Couple o' zingers over the bag and into the dirt but....really cool feeling shooting like that again. Got two nice groups. The rest were all over the bag @ 60'. It's coming. No complaints.

Recurve is boring almost @ 30y. Not even a challenge with the flu-flu on a paper plate. Twang-PFFFFFFFF- POP! Fun watching those go down range.

New Samick 68" is in the mail, too. Woot!

Competitive shooting is a lot a fun and a killer drug. But it sure is neat to be doing this again. Make some arrows. Go try them out. A Solo Sport. Just me and the tackle. No one around for miles. No competition. Really in the moment with some strings, sticks and feathers.

Stovey, why are your feathers that big on an arrow with this wire-double-eight at the point? You need that to stabilize them?

And no, I'm not an bow-man. I have a few bows but I still don't know to shoot them well enough so that 'shooting bow' is not translated to "searching arrows'. And that last statement is not so well to take a bow out...

Those are called flu-flu's! They keep the arrow from going too far in case of a miss when shooting at birds. Good punch up to 20y, then the anchor gets thrown out pretty fast. The point is for birds and small game. So with this arrow I can hunt birds and cottontails.

Do I understand this correctly? When you cannot hit a bird with a cal 12, you're going to try with bow and arrows?
Sorry I only have 2 tumbs to "tumbs-up" for you! That's the true spirit for a sporter and a hunter. Must be something in the air in the States... or something nasty in the air out here...

but I get the picture of you in your tu-tu teasing the birds with you flu-flu... Smile
