went for a really big walk with my Brother in law on the weekend.
we were looking to see if red stags were stripping antlers yet and were pleased to see they are,but not silly enough to let me into range,or stay in same place overnight.....
nevermind we had a great time watching hinds and fawns and while glassing where stag was the night before,I happened to look closer and spotted 2 chammy

plurry computer is playing up again, and wont let me move around:scratch: ok that should be rotated clockwise 90 degrees, the two brown smudged on edge of shadow are chammy.
we stalked down in closer, being in full view of a hind and fawn the whole time she wasnt to worried about us as she couldnt smell us her being upwind and around 500 yards away.

that one needs rotated too!!!! not doing very well tonight.
we were nearly into position we had picked to shoot from when a rescue chopper flew down valley about 3kms away which she didnt like one little bit, ears flicking and neck craning to see where it was...she has memory of the meat hawks working so hopefully will stay alive.
we got to our position and couldnt see animals and asumed they had gone when chopper flew past.
we sat and waited for a bit trying to suss out our options,it was plurry hot so I took off my gumboots and socks to air/cool my feet and kept watching area,AJ then spotted the chammy right where they had been... well 2 of the 3 anyway. we moved back a couple of metres till AJ could get into reasonable shooting position with my rifle rested across my daybag... nearly confy but not quite right so I rolled my socks up and positioned them as rear rest...perfect,steady and ready
I let out a loud whistle then a 2nd before she stood up and he managed to line up crosshairs and let drive
that went high so make sure to aim dead on" I said
the does kid had tucked in beside mum and from where I was watching what happened next was predictable..the mighty .270 spoke and BOTH animals were hit, the kid tumbled down hill and doe staggered then sat down,I got AJ to line her up again and when her head was clear fire a 3rd shot to finish her... didnt need it but we dont muck around or let animal linger.
big handshake and he set off to have a closer look/collect them, I got camera out and took photos of hind still walking around happily

we harvested all the good bits off both animals and started a 2hr stagger back up the hill...did I mention it was a stinky hot day in mid 30s??? man did we go through some water....
saw 8 deer for the 2 days
horns on chammy went 7 and a bit inches so a good representative trophy and animals he wont ever forget.
we finally got photos out of phone by buying a sd card to insert into it and transphered them out via that way.

Well, Elvis, we heard you the first time. Great pictures again. Congrats on a successful hunt and scouting. Hoping you figure out how to rotate them 90 degrees.

A great story and hunt mate, and with a happy ending to boot. Shame about the wee one though, but that's how thing go sometimes. At least the meat won't go astray.

I would love to hunt NZ, but from the look of that country it is not something I could do physically these days. Maybe horseback would be an option.

Ok, Elvis, how did the one looking thru the scope end up with the correct orientation?

photos were taken with my phone.... the round ones were through 10x28 binos and it so happens the plurry thing is dead on in focus pressed hard up against the body of phone....so it ok to use once eye piece is centred ,I held whole shebang and looked at screen of phone..... would work better if had managed to find shade but with sun beating down trying to hold steady and see screen was a bit of an act. the rifle photos was with rifle balanced on top of rocks/daybag and phone held 3" back to align it...... that was even harder than using binos but capturing image of hind and fawn on that shingle patch made my day.

next time I use binos like that I will need to remember which way to hold everything to orintate it right way.

Vince, chammy are a very special animal to me,not really sure why but they just tick all the boxes more so than any other.
there was a 3rd animal in the shade before that chopper came past and we were going to take that leaving doe and kid...but not to be.
we could have opted not to take doe but decided to do so as AJ hadn't taken a chammy before,no way was I going to orphan the kid,if shot hadnt lined up as it had we would have needed to shoot kid after doe, that said it was plurry tasty.
