Mig eh, gassless as well by the look of it and nowhere near close on the settings, a $100 bunnings special?
Total engineering solutions used to called MAB, barrel makers on your side of town.
They have some very flash cnc mills and lathes in there, worth a call if nothing else 07 3355 5824.
When you visit dont forget a selection of hand files for the rework, dremels are nice, but you cant put metal back easily.
You can do some fine work with just a file, then again I'm talking to a bloke who used to use high explosives to solve problems.

If I was at the end of the road with repairs or replacements I would attempt to make one by hand. It would have to be made slightly on the large end and hand fitted but I am sure it could be done with enough patience. Choosing what to make it from would be the hard part but I would choose a mild carbon steel that might harden and temper to be more resilient than the original.

In any event unless Remington comes through it is going to cost time, money, or both.
It's a shame that they won't let you send them the barreled action and repair it themselves.

have recently seen extractor for norinco 7.62x39mm made by hand from a piece of holden leaf spring (knew they had to be good for SOMETHING)
sourcing new part was costly and hard to find I believe...yours is more complex but doable.

Yep...gasless MIG. TES...old MAB...of course (I still can't get past calling them MAB). Tony's workshop is about a 10 minute drive from home, so it is definitely worth dropping in to seek his guidance.

I have a good selection of very fine jeweller's files, so no problems there mate. I only use the Dremel for the initial cleanup, then finish with the files. I only use "stuff that goes crump" on the big jobs mate...unless I'm in a hurry.

I touched base with a 3D printing company today. A brief description of the part and size lead him to think that a couple of hundred dollars should get a new part "printed". If we spend a little more he said it can be "printed" in titanium. I asked about strength and he said that the weak link in 3D metal printing is in the bond between layers. Overall, he thought the strength would as good or slightly less than diecast.

Well if you do get it printed you can use that to get it scanned into a cad or cnc program so you can get it milled out of something substancial like steel if it doesnt work out in printed metal. Or you could make one with basic hand tools, the paki's build complete AK 47's with little more than a handfull of files and a hammer.
They inserted a printed titanium sternum and rib cage into someone the other day, which is usually a low load job but has a constant cyclic movement so things are improving. They didnt mention how expensive it was or how expensive the printer was. I assume the patient lived.

What I think I'll do is get a hold of the part, clean it up, make a piece from some sort of metal, see if I can silver solder it into place...make it suitable to use for a template for a CNC model, then see what it will cost to get the part machined on a CNC mill.

If you are simply going to use it for making a mold or CNC image I think expoxy putty to fill in missing section is easiest. I have used the stuff they fix gas tanks with to build up worn parts and it files and shapes well. It won't stand up to a lot of wear. I use a piece of glass shelving with a section of ruled paper on one side. I use a water soluble glue (muselage) to hold the pieces on the glass using lines on the paper to help with alignment. In my family I am the fixit guy and all manner of toys etc. get brought over for repair. Sometimes it is simple other times Scratch

I too am the Mr Fixit of the family Mac, so I know how you feel mate.

I have some metal epoxy that is fairly strong, but certainly not up to the wear and tear of use. The final option is to get the files out and spend untold hours shaping a piece of metal to be a 'new' part.

Ah so you've seen the final trade test for Airforce tradesman initial fitting course of 35 years ago. A small steel vice square to within .001 of an inch. Only power tool allowed was a bench drill for the lightening hole on the base and holes for screws. These days they dont do anything if its not on a computer.
Must show it to you next time you wander out this way. Shocked

Did you have any luck with this Vince? A brand new 7615 lasted about 35 shots before this exact part broke on me. Took it back to dealer and its on its way back to Raytrade for warranty claim. The dealer didn't say anything about parts not being available though....

Sorry I missed your post mitty...unacceptable actually.

Good luck with the warranty claim. Both my shooting buddy and myself have "searched the world" literally for a replacement part without any luck. If Raytrade offer you a refund, give some thought to either the Mossberg MVP or CZ 527, both of which are cheaper than the Remington 7615. I can't speak for the Mossberg, but the CZ 527 is every bit as accurate as the 7615.

Raytrade don't have the part and Remington aren't talking, so we aren't holding our breath. Having said that, Tony Cleaver from Cleaver Firearms in Brisbane said they should be able to get one from Remington, so we have had one on back order for about 3 or 4 months now. They said they are expecting a shipment of items from Remington "early in the new year" so we are hoping they have been lucky enough to score one.

Only other option I can see is to get one made by someone with a CNC, although I it will more than likely be cost prohibitive.

Let me know how you go with Raytrade mate, we are very interested.

Umm...when you say "3D file", what exactly is that mate (I don't understand CNC requirements)?

Ok, a 3D file is the 3D drawing of the part with the required dimension and edges built in.
Having said that, if you do not have a 3D file, the part can also be made to a rough tolerance, as long as the critical dimensions are given, and you would need to file and shape the part to fit afterwards.

Good news at last. Remington have decided that the Australian customers are worth considering and have forwarded a shipment of parts to their Australian Agent, Raytrade. Included in that shipment are a number of Shell Strippers for the 7615.

They aren't cheap...about $105+ each, but we now have one...two actually.

Thanks to everyone for your assistance and for keeping your eyes and ears open for the part for me.
