Does anyone out there have any experience with the Sierra 70 gr. .243 Match King, 70 gr .243 Blitz King, or the 85 gr .243 Match King bullets. I am working up a new load for a.243 WSSM and I want a bullet that will not tear them up (fur hunter)but put them down soundly. I would hope that I could get the Match King to show some expansion at about 3600 fps.

Casey, welcome to Hunting Nut

I've not had any experience with the 243 WSSM or the bullets you mentioned. Hopefully someone here can help.
I wish the best to you in your quest, let us know how it works out. Smile

Chet

As you know match bullets are not reliable expanders. That capability was not built into the bullets. Now the first thing you will hear is 'I use them and they work great'. There are just so many bullets that will do the job better by expanding and not blowing the far side off the coyote.

If you don't get a 243 WSM reloader to reply here try over at varminthunters.com, coyotegods.com, or predatormasters.com I'm not a 243 WSM guy so I won't speculate what bullet works better than match bullets but I'm sure there are better choices.

I was suprised to see that two coyote's I shot with a 264 WM using 140 Nosler Partition layed the coyote's out and it did not blow the far side out. Bullet did the same job on javelina too.

I just saw this link at varminthunters.com for a new WSSM website - "The WSSM Zone"
You might find it interesting.

Many of Sierras bullet are Match bullets so be careful which ones you use.
I've used the 52gr HPBT Match bullets for woodchuck and the 70gr HPBT Match as well. Both work very well, but the odd time you'll notice something strange happening. They'll turn an animal inside out, quite gory at best. The Blitz King is a much better choice. Much depends on what you're going to do with the animal after shooting it. Most HPs can be pretty destructive. Best wishes.
