A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a suspected intruder at a Greater Manchester house.

Police found a man, aged in his 30s, with knife injuries after they were called to a house in Midland Road, Bramhall, at 19:50 BST on Saturday.

The man arrested on suspicion of murder is aged 39 and believed to be the householder.

A 33-year-old man has also been arrested in connection with the burglary.

The couple who live at the house were named locally as Vincent and Karen Cooke.

The man was home alone when the burglary happened although his wife and son returned during the incident but were unharmed.

Ch Supt Tim Forber, said: "Clearly this is a serious incident in which a man has lost his life and at this time we believe the dead man was one of two men who were attempting to carry out a burglary at the house."

A post mortem examination is due to take place later on the man who died.

Floral tributes to the dead man have been laid near the scene.

Guy has 2 people do a home invasion, one of the suspects is stabbed after the police call, while the second suspect flees before the police arrives.

Guy gets arrested for "murder", and people put flowers for the criminal near by?

To me, this is the scary part of the incident. The intruder could have done some serious damage here. It's a good thing that the householder knew how to use a knife.

These poor downtrodden individuals who really only accidentally wandered into the wrong house, with no intention of doing anything unlawful, were accosted and attacked by a dangerous, psychopathic knife wielding man with a violent temper. How dare he attack them viciously, and without any thought for the safety and well-being of the unfortunate and innocent man, lethally stabbing him with a deadly weapon, that he had on his person for no apparent good reason, murdering him, ending the life a good man, who through no fault of his own, made an innocent mistake of walking into the wrong house in error.

Seriously though...the only thing I can see that he did wrong was not ensure that the scumbag who broke into his house didn't have a weapon either in, or beside, his hand when the Police arrived. What the hell is wrong with the law over there mate???!!!

I don't know the full story, and of course, the only story we will generally get to hear is the bent and twisted one put out by the media (who are renowned for not letting the truth get in the way of a good story), so we don't know if the guy was defending himself or only his property. Be very interesting to hear more of this one and how things pan out for the home owner.

IT was a 2 on 1! Over here we take a VERY dim view of home invasion robberies as most end in murder with the homeowners dead. HTF do you arrest someone for murder on a 2 on 1 home invasion robbery? It's not like he used a gun, the invaders had every oppertunity to leave. Something's missing here. If the homeowner was cornered and was defending himself it's NOT murder, it's self defence! If he chased the perp down and sliced him? Different story!

Was watching a news show earlier this year and they talked about "squatters" having more rights than the homeowner in London. wtf

The show interviewed a couple who had just bought a house and was in the stages of selling their old house and transferring all their stuff to the new place when they encountered the squatters in their newly purchased house and had to go to court to finally get them evicted after 4 months. Shocked

Exactly, but I'd say if they are in your house it is self defense period. No ifs ands or buts.

Self defence cases are tricky- if you take a life you have to prove your's was in danger, or, at least there was threat of grave bodily harm. And, "what's prudent", what a normal person would do in that situation.

Unfortunately things are a lot different than they used to be 20 years ago. There's sooo many more soft-spines now that feel all life is so sacred you don't have the right to take one no matter what. There was a time when a home was "castle" and in some states that doctrine still applys- you break into it you forfit the right to live. When same was the Rule there were a lot less home invasion style robberies but what the stupid lib's don't understand is crooks know how to work the system. And, they also know jury's are biased in their favor. So same emboldens them. They have a lot of sass and sawgger now knowing the Law won't screw with them because it's too much hassel. LA's bad- scum around here get away with a lot playing all sorts of "cards". London is the worst!
