I'm a Proud Senior Citizen

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not blame others.

HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took:

The melody out of music,
The pride out of appearance,
The courtesy out of driving,
The romance out of love,
The commitment out of marriage,
The responsibility out of parenthood,
The togetherness out of the family,
The learning out of education,
The service out of patriotism,
The Golden Rule from rulers,
The nativity scene out of cities,
The civility out of behavior,
The refinement out of language,
The dedication out of employment,
The prudence out of spending,
The ambition out of achievement or
God out of government and school.

And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!!

And, we do understand the meaning of patriotism,
and remember those who have fought and died for our country.

Does anyone under the age of 50 know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner?

What about the last verse of My Country 'tis of Thee?

"Our father's God to thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's Holy light.
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God our King."

Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and
pride in their hearts as they stand at attention with
their hand over their hearts!

YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN!

I'm the life of the party...... even if it lasts until 8 p.m.

I'm very good at opening childproof caps.... with a hammer.

I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing you're saying.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere.

I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg.

I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

I'm a walking storeroom of facts..... I've just
lost the key to the storeroom door.

Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am
having the time of my life!

Being somewhat senior myself, I noticed that one accomplishment was over-sighted and I have to say I'm also a culprit but it seems to me when we were in school all those years ago, we learned to read and spell. I don't think it's in the curriculum anymore. It irks me to read a misspelled word (the ones I know how to spell myself, the ones I don't know, I look them up) like some of the easiest ones like 'to' and 'too' are so misused on this forum also. I work in an office that hires recent high school grads (that can't spell) and they have to write out the doctor's prescriptions for me to read, that include some instructions also. Aerodynamic turns into arrow dinamick, polka dots turns into poko dots and what's funny is when the doctor says a word that is very specific to the profession (like micrognathia, or pseudo-mesioclusion) but the assistant has never heard of it, they write down some non-sense that even the doctor can't decipher. We all stand around wondering what the heck was that? They can't even phonetically spell. Have you noticed that phonics is now a newish program you can buy to teach your kids how to read? Used to be, they did that in school. Now you have to pay extra. I know I'm not the greatest of spellers and this has maybe nothing to do with this post (sorry) but I think our little ones need, indeed, to pay attention to their Elders, they might learn something. Free coffee?

Great post Glockster. I'm proud to be an Old Fart.

Suz...well said. Bow Hug Bow Bow Hug

The thing I hate is all of the abbreviations that are creeping into the language...24/7 for 24 hours a day 7 days a week, "v" instead of versus...and don't even start me on the garbage and crap that is used in text messaging...b4, gr8, u (you), 2 (to, too) Who can understand this crap other than the individual who used it. burr burr

Cheers, Vince

Nah...not at all Slim...I just hate the English language being bastardised for the sake of brevity or ease.

Speak and write the language the way it is meant to be. When the language is used the way it is meant to be then there is no confusion. Those of us that have spent time in the military know all too well about the use of acronyms and abbreviations. I often referred to it as "insanity and death by ancronym".

I'm still immersed in it every day. Every report has to have an acronym section. However, conversations would be definitely longer without them. Just don't get mixed in with a different group that uses the same acronym to shorten a different phrase.

Suz and Vince, I'm with you 100%! One of the hardest things we try to do is accurately communicate with each other. When we have a perfectly good language why screw around and make it more complicated? As for acronyms, I spent 3 years in SAS, CAS, CAP, PAP, OC, PA and VA. So what the heck does that mean? I'll give you a day or so to guess before I tell you.

Ok I'll bitch again.....have you noticed the acronyms change in time? You have to keep up with that too. TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) is what it used to be called if you had a jaw pain, they just called it TMJ syndrome or dysfunction, now they call it TMD (temporo-mandibular dysfunction) which literally doesn't make sense. It should be TMJD if they're going to go that way about it. It used to be if a person was messing around with too many partners they could get VD (venereal disease), well lets change that to STDs, (sexually transmitted disease) cause nobody seems to know what a venereal is, and what the heck is a dictionary.
