I've used bricks and bags, notched wood w/ felt glued in, jack stands wrapped in rags, foam rubber blocks (light but squirmy...and flamable!!! Laughing ), etc. etc.

Father Time is catching up and it's getting harder to hold and see. So, I'm thinking of finally investing in a cast 3-point. Plus I'm darn tired of lugging sand bags to and from the range, that just plain blows. Mad

Got me thinkin'- I bet there's some creative rests out there, along with the high-end stuff.... Razz

What's on yer bench? Smile

Kneeling was fun....can't do it anymore due to a trashed knee and hip from crashing moto's.

I've been eye'ing sticks and stuff for the field. Some even come in pouches and stuff. Way Cool!

I may sound stupid but have you looked at bipods .If you have a heavy or a scoped gun it may help.

Was backordering some 240gr Nosler's and got this too for bench shootin' hogleg's and rifles....I'm kinda of a DYI guy, but, the stuff I've been using of late is just gettin' a lil too raggedy, even for me. Laughing

You obviously have good taste. Smile

I liked the bag cuz it was suede, since I'll be resting a pistol barrel on or near it. Some had a more "V"'d cushions but were rubber or nylon.

I've been curious about them poly clamp-on barrel bipods.
Might be handy for prone piggy poppin' with my 10" SBH.

Been looking at rifle rest forks also from Champion, like are used in matches, for soft ground. Stuff it in, get proned, steady rest. *BOOM*

Dinner! Very Happy

When dealing with handguns, I've found that shooting from a rest doesn't duplicate field conditions well enough for sighting purposes. Depending on the individual firearm, they can shoot high, low or laterally from "field" type positions after being sighted in from most rests.

By all means use any convenient supported rest position when possible in the field, but don’t grow too depend on it for all of your shooting. The best shooting position I've found for sighting a pistol for field conditions is to sit with your back braced against a sturdy object and your forearms firmly braced between your upraised knees. This position allows you to sight in your firearm and still be sighted close to your point of impact when shooting from an unsupported position.

While this works well for me, only experimenting will find out if it is right for you. Best of luck!

Ok, ok...

Both... some will do double duty. Obvioulsy, ya can't use some rifle rests as pistol rests and vice-versa.

Copy that on the Cowboy Keith method. Excellent stance (or sit).

These lil forks and clip-on aids (wiegh nothing, go in a back pocket, let ya holster your pistol still...) I'm talking about are for use when no back-rest is around. My hold is for crud now so.... I won't risk it w/o something to rest my shooter on.
