Took a walk yesterday and jumped some nice fat Wood ducks. They were looking very good. Creeping up on a drainage ditch we jumped them at about 10 yards. It had been a rainy night and the tall grass was still very wet, which allowed us to get as close as we did unheard. Tough to shoot because of all the tall grass finding the birds will be difficult.

Boy I love the fall.

Woodys are rare as can be out here in the west. I've often dreamed of shooting one and can count the number of times I've even seen wild ones here on 1 hand with fingers left over.

Maybe I will buy a nice drake off you this fall to have it mounted. Always wanted a mounted woody.

Out here its all Malards, pintails, teal and some widgeon.
