Surviving When You Fall Through The Ice.

The following is a short video of a professor showing what to do when you fall through the ice into cold water. Its very interesting

www.lake-link.com/icef...yvideo.cfm

Very very eye opening. I'd always heard hypothermia set in very fast, but after watching this video you realize you have alot more time to get yourself out. Basically dont loose your head!

It's a good thing my pond has only 14 inches of water in it when it has any water at all. Have you ever tried to down load with Dial-up...(If you..........................fall through
the......................................ice..............................You will know.................................what to do.........................................) And it never down loaded because my provider (The great GOIN) dropped me right off the internet and I had to restart...Because I would never know how to save myself...All I do now is swear a bunch and wade ashore. Just like a Coasty...Have you ever been to a Coast Guard Burrial at Sea? Yup...Slide'em over the side and stomp them into the mud...

LOL yea dont click on video links if you have dialup.

Basically this professer holds a class with rescue personal out on a river or pond, jumps in the water though a "hole" and goes through the "what should you do" / "what not to do" as the body reacts to the water. He shows the "going into hypothermia" actually can take quite long to set in. There is a 1 to 3 minute period where the body reacts to the instant cold but he shows if you can manage this and not panic, it will pass and you can then begin to plan your exit which he gives tips on. Overall he was in 34F water for 15 min before he became unable to get himself out.

Its very interesting, expecially to someone like myself that does alot of ice fishing.

After the past steamy summers we got in this Land of Oz, falling into ice would be a blessing indeed... moreso if there is water nearby (not in Queensland tho Very Happy )

I've had extreme hypothermia before...Not fun. A bit scary. But you can survive it if you recognize it soon enough...
