|
Firstly, I must say this is one of the best forums I have encountered. I've been reading the posts for a number of weeks and decided to join. And this is my first post.
I'm beginning to load .223 and have a question for experienced .223 reloaders concerning H335 and H322. I have been a Hodgdon fan for years yet one of my shooting buddies swears by 2015. H335 and H322 appear to be quite similar in powder characteristics.
Does anyone have any experience or preference of one over another?
Thanks in advance for your response(s).

Welcome aboard. I haven't used any of these powders, but I do load and shoot alot of .223 everyyear using 55 gr. bullets, and have had great results us Varget.--tr

Thanks Moose.
I've heard a lot of good reports about Varget. I'm shooting a Sierra 52g MK and found a few loads with Varget - some positive and some negative but my experience tells me that is the case (no pun intended) with any powder, case, bullet, and primer.
I'm for the most part settled with the Sierra 52MK, CCI primers, and Winchester brass unless someone can talk me out of my choices.
Thanks again

Thanks for the welcome shrpshtrjoe.
I saw you are from NE MD. If that is North East, I used to spend a a lot of time in the area before the condo and marina mongers got a hold of it but, that's another topic altogether.

Howdy. I'm only about 6 miles from the town of North East . It is starting to get pretty crowded around here .

SavageRuger: based on handloading for numerous 223s, H322 rocks in the 223 Rem with bullet weights of 50gr and less. It's a tad too fast for anything heavier. That said, it is easy to outperform other powders with H322 in terms of accuracy and velocity when using the 50gr and lighter bullets. H335 becomes effective at the 55gr level and is rivaled by Varget and W748, any of which would be excellent choices, IMHO.
Let us know what you find with your rifle.

I've been using 25.5g H335 along with the 52g BTHPs from Sierra. Has shot 5/16" groups out of my VT, and never over 1/2", if I decide to show up.

SavageRuger ...
This is my first post/reply on this forum. I ditto what Handloader said as I use H-335 and Varget both in my 3 .223 rifles. I shoot 50gr Nosler BT in one rifle and 55gr Nosler BT and 55gr Vmax bullets in the other 2 rifles. I get the most consistent groups (for all weather conditions) with Varget but the H-335 does well too.
Good shooting ...
