First fishing trip of the year. Broken nose, dislocated shoulder, other indignities I won't mention. I'll get those bastard fish yet.

one way to shave off ya beard I spouse...... might need to set the drag on your real a little lighter if your fish are that big (or buy a set of water skis)... looking forward to the fishy tale to explain this wee mishap.

OK, sort of long, but. It's been a couple years since I have felt well enough to go fishing, and so I wanted to make sure everything would be OK. New tires on the trailer, tune up on the motor including a carburetor rebuild (never another Yamaha). cleaned it, greased it, made sure the electrical system was in top shape, did everything to assure a safe experience cause I take people with me, son in laws, daughters, grand kids.

Forgot one thing, check the damn launch/landing rope. Rope (polyurethane) was rotted and the boat got away during launch. My son in law started wading in after it, I told him to stop cause the wind was blowing the boat towards the end of the pier. Pier's probably 10 foot tall and you have to climb down a ladder to access your boat, not a great design. Got the boat under my feet and was using the pilings to get it back to the ladder. Got there and was trying to secure it when a gust of wind blew it out from under me, the piers design did all the damage, but basically it was my fault for not checking $5 worth of rope. Stuff happens. The real challenge was getting the boat back on the trailer in that wind with blood gushing, a dislocated should, and no real help. Have to get new trailer lights now. Did I mention my son in law doesn't drive or operate anything that moves? So then the 40 mile drive home, and listening to Dee.

OOOoooohh Lester!!!! Yer gonna feel that one for a long time. I bet you're on blood thinners too, that stuff scares me. Polypropylene is what you need for rope, you probably know that now, but it has the qualities you need for water use and outdoor use. Rot resistant and UV resistant. I learned that when putting up my radio antenna because it needs guy wires (ropes) and the polypro, is also a dielectric (won't conduct electricity). Sorry about the fishing trip....

Poly anything is not a good idea around boats, water and sun (maybe for water ski rope only because it floats). Contrary to what Suz said, I would go with either Nylon twist or nylon double braid. I prefer nylon twist (three strand) because it's easier to "eye" splice. To stop it from unraveling just burn the bitter ends. Nylon is next to impervious to water, sun, weather and time. Double braid has a tendency to stretch under strain. Not always good.

The rope was poly, but I have no idea how old it was, 10-15 + years would be my guess. I'll probably go with a good nylon twist. Need to check the 200 feet of anchor rope before we try again.

Ah Lester, Lester, Lester,
That'll buff out, eventially.
Very glad it wasnt worse.
How you managed anything with a dislocated shoulder is amazing.
Anyway get better, buy new rope and go fish.
Apparently a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.
They may be wrong.
Get well.

Bushy here's where I got my information on Poly rope fromHow to match the rope to the job and if you look at the pros and cons it does state that it's UV resistant, which is contrary to most other poly rope information but it does appear to be ideal rope for water use.
