Friday, May 8 marks the 70th anniversary of VE-Day--the euphoric celebration that erupted when people learned that WWII in Europe was finally over. Even though the unfinished war against Japan still loomed for those who were fighting, the surrender of Nazi Germany brought years of brutal and exhausting conflict to a long-awaited end.

I've been thinking of Dad (USAAF), Mom (US Navy) and all the other WW2 vets. Bless them all!

I just saw a story about 250,000 German citizens who are looking for their fathers who were American, Canadian, British, French or Russian G.I.'s who hooked up with their mothers after WWII. Seems some have been able to track down their fathers after 70 years. Interesting. All the best...

Speaking of children looking for parents, I recently read about the Nazi Lebensborn program. The Germans could not produce enough racially valuable children so many were kidnapped from families throughout occupied Europe and raised as Germans after careful indoctrination which included not allowing them to ever again speak in their native tongue. Estimates are as high as 400,000 with 200,000 from Poland alone. Of course blond hair and either blue or green eyes was a must.
