Guys...whether we like it or not, firearms laws and ownership is not going to get any better or easier as time goes by.

The anti's.....bleeding hearts.......tree huggers.......warm and fuzzy, touchy feely do gooders........and any other minority who feels like jumping on the band wagon.....will slowly but surely chip away at what all of us consider to be our right...that of firearm ownership. It is an unfortunate fact of life.

One of my mates calls it death by a thousand cuts.

The Govt introduces a small, but significant, law and that is the first step. From there it is a fairly simple matter for them to enact more and more because the precedent has been set. Then you get the problem we have over here...a law gets passed that allows the Police, not the Politicians, to amend the Firearms Laws by changing a Regulation, and NOBODY, not even the stakeholders, gets a say in it, another "cut". Then there is the submission to Govt put forward by an Anti Politician (usually a small insignificant individual in the big scheme of things) that gets through because it is not a "big thing"...another "cut". However tagged onto this submission, and gets passed at the same time, is a long list of things that can be activated with the stroke of a pen...no debate or warning....many more "cuts" lying in wait. This happened with duck hunting where I live. Duck hunting was outlawed for, I believe, environmental reasons ...however tacked onto the end of this submission was the name of every conceivable animal that could be hunted. They were not activated, but they can be at any time without any warning. A victory for the anti hunting groups and ultimately the anti firearms groups as well.

The only way I can see that we can lock in place our right to firearm ownership is to get enough pro firearms people into Govt so that realistic laws can be enacted. Either that or a revolution...and the honest law abiding folks amongst us will never do that.

Even convicted felons can own guns if they live legally for ten years and get references to re-gain their rights.
We just don't want to hand felons guns if they will be used against us.

Yes the US does background checks and if you are a criminal (felon) the sell is denied. However, what is the difference between a club, baseball bat, knife, firearm or vehicle if a person is out to committ a murder? Murder is murder, it is the intent not the means that matters. We prosecute for the act, not the means.

Historiclally any form of licensing or resigistration has been used as power by governments to controll people. When the government has the power to confiscate the means the people have to resist the powers of government, the people are not free but slaves to the government.

God has given us the right to self protection (read this as the instinct to survive or protect ourselves and property). The US Constitution was designed to proctect those God given rights. The framers of the Constitution investigated past governments and how they controlled the people (masses) and countered those controls in the Constitution.

This is why it is so important to defend any attack, no matter how small, against the Constitution. The Judical Branch of our government is suppose to be the front line defense, but it has been breached by the socialists.

Vince, in 1776 the honest law abiding folks here rebelled against an oppressive govt. I think it will happen again at some point and hope it will be peaceful.

As for licensing, as Dust said it is for the purpose of people control. You'd have to be pretty foolish to think that a govt. would require licenses and then stop there. A simple study of history teaches that the nature of governments is to seek more power and control.
