That was the plan, I am getting old and the body is failing (to many years of construction and logging, then throw in 15 years of volunteer paramedic) I just thought that this would be a good time for the G-son to have a week or so in the high mountains in Arizona. I think he is spending to much time in the city (Tucson).

now if I can only show him a bear Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

How did you manage to loose your elk tag mate? Bit if bad luck there I reckon. I would have my tags secured in a safe until the day.

Vince, I didn't lose it, I signed it over to my Grandson so I could have a chance to be with him when he hunts/kills his first elk.

If I kept it I probably would concentrate on my hunt more and this way I can teach him more and hopefully he will learn to enjoy the time in the forest and the hunt even if he doesn't get an elk

That's mighty generous of you Slots, and a damn fine gesture on your part mate. Your grandson should enjoy his time with you on the hunt and will hopefully learn some useful skills. The big bonus though is the time spent together mate.

What cracks me up is that you have to apply to go hunting!
We've only got the Fiordland area in the bottom of the South Island where you have to go into a true ballot system (i think its rigged - but thats another story) and you may have to queue to get into private hunting blocks but the guts of it is that NZ is primarily free hunting on Public land.
Hope your ballots prove successful and your hunting the same.

I hope your grandson has good luck with the hunt mate. Whichever ways it goes though, you will both come out winners just from having spent the time together out there in the oolloo (bush).

We call them applications but it really is just a lottery / ballot system.
