Was actually half decent out today, so went for a drive. Found these guys out and about. They were camped out in front of a ranchers house and were just getting up to head over to his haystacks for their afternoon feed. The ranchers are not real happy about them dining on their haystacks. Its the deers only option left though. Its a very severe winter.
There were a dozen of these guys altogether.

Thanks for the pictures m2. They don't look very big for mule deer. Am I just getting confused by some of the big mule bucks I've seen?

slimjim, these are all yearlings and does that are hanging out here. I haven't been able to find any mature deer at all this winter so far.

They grow a lot larger than white-tails and are not as skittish. The meat is about the same - just more of it.

My wife and I decided we need to get enough land to grow some alfalfa. Just so we can roll it up for the deer to play on...... Funny, it was right after I showed her those pictures..... Hmmmmmm

Very fit for yearlings. Maybe the more mature deer are still living off the land and avoiding getting close to humans.
