I got up in a tree for the first time on Thursday early afternoon. So relaxing and peacefull. Heard one grunt a ways away and dispatched a 4.5' Timber Rattler on the way out to the stand site. That sucker was 11" around at the widest point. Went to pick it up on the way out but it was covered with fire ants, I was looking forward to some chili.
Anyway, I have never seen so many tree rats in this area since I got here in 92. I had two chasing each other and they ran up my tree and used my arm as part of their race track. Almost laughed my way off the stand. I can't wait until after the first couple of frosty days so the blow fly larva leave the buggers. They don;t do anything to the meat but the mind won't let me eat them if the larva are there and I don't like to waste a tasty squirrel. Sure wish there were Grouse around here.
