Well, the calling season is finally upon us here in Central Kansas! I have a question for you more seasoned callers.

Will any of you howl in your sets this early in the year? One part of me says not to, as it will scare the first year coyotes off. Another part of me says to use howls imitating young coyotes to bring in those just 'kicked out of the nest'.

What do you all think, or what will you do?
Tim

Actually, I howl to begin every set all year. The reason being, it gives dogs the impression that either a friend is nearby or someone to be chased out of their territory.

Sometimes, even though no dog howled back, I'll see him/her coming in to check out who is in the area. After five minutes or so I'll start with a distress call hopefully making any dogs think that the "other" coyote just got something to nibble on, and then come in for some of the action.
