Some Recoil Therapy

Well, after today's effort, walking around Movie World on the Gold Coast all day with three grandkids, I reckon I've earned some me time.

My shooting buddy and I are heading up to one of our local Clay Target Clubs, the Caboolture Club, for a 75 target Sporting Competition. The Club's Shoot Master sets up some great sporting targets, some of which are extremely challenging.

Taking both my side x side and O/U shotties up to blow the cobwebs outa them. The worst part is I am being picked up by my mate at 0630 !! Damn, it's still yesterday at that hour of the night. Oh well, best I harden up and put my big boys pants on and make sure I'm ready on time.

Had a ball mate. Most of the targets replicated the flight of a number of different type of bird.

There were "quail" zipping across the top of the long grass and disappearing behind some scrub, "springing Teal", small birds (using the mini target) screaming up out of the grass and over the top of a tree to disappear behind it, "rabbits" from left and right at different speeds and over rough ground making them bounce and "hop", and of course the usual incomers, outgoers and lefts and rights high and low.

Today's shoot was probably the best I've seen and had the pleasure to shoot. All in all, a brilliant and most relaxing day. Only thing that could have made it any better was more smoked targets.

I did encounter one "self correcting" fault...keep ya bloody finger tips out of the way when ya close the action on the side by side...I bled like a stuck pig and ended up with blood spots all over the front of my shirt from "recoil spatter". Laughing

Sure have Slim...as one should mate. Having said that, I've always been a night person, not a morning person.

Thanks Gil, it was an awesome day mate, even though I did take a small chunk outa my finger. As I said, the best course of fire for a Sporting Clays event I've ever shot. I'm looking forward to the next one next month.
