The crims dont follow the laws, simple.
There is a drive by shooting in western sydney at least 4 times a week, usually by semi auto pistol, which are heavily controlled.
Not sure about the figures the story states, seems very high to me. The cops arent that good, or our crims are dumb.

England has a TOTAL ban on handguns to the point their olympic shooting team must go overseas to train, guess where handgun crime is totally out of control.
Also if you shoot some in self defense over here, you ARE the one going to gaol and the crim gets treated like a victim.

Heck you dont have to shoot anyone, just look mean and you get in trouble with the cops.

In Oz it is our DUTY to run away from ANY confrontation.

So, in Oz, like in England, people don't have the same right to defend themselves as the animals? I guess the Bible was wrong then - God didn't make man and give them dominion over the earth - just over each other. Rolling Eyes

Look up excessive force, crims unlike their victims have "rights" and as robbing you is their job oh and s says you cant beat the living snot or shoot the scum. If they get hurt while breaking in, some how thats your fault as welland people have been sued.
Some of the above is tongue in cheek, but you cant respond with greater levels of force than the scum is using and you must stop whatever you are doing when the threat stops. Cops dont like the additional competion and it takes them away from speed cameras.

Does that hold true for all citizens? Do the police have the same restraints? If they respond to a man with a knife disturbance do they have to come armed only with knives? Do celebrities and politicians have the right to protect themselves by having armed guards? Is it only the commoners that are denied the basic human right of self defense?

Of course not.
I cannot have a gun or knife,mace , extenable batten or a tazer for self defense, the police do and dont mind using them.
Dont start me on politicians or rich knobs.

A history lesson

The pommies had no where to dump their convict class (War of Independance)
So they dumped the convicts here
The laws haven't change they are still made to keep the masses in check and to suppress any independent thought and the suggestion of self defense will be laughed at.
Have seen an advertisement recently that told people not to hand in their guns for a recent amnesty.
It suggested not to, as the police only know where the registered ones are.
