roklok: I posed the question of relative strength on the Ruger Forum as well. From your post and those of others on RF, the consensus is that the RH and SRH are stronger revolvers than the BH or SBH. I believe that the community opinion is correct. I also believe it is academic.

Since both Ruger series, DA or SA, exceed the pressure limits of the brass, there may be little point in discussing the merits of "which is stronger". As an experimenter, amateur for sure, this type of conclusion is frustrating and what I have sought is specific evidence or empirical data on the testing of revolvers for their relative strength. So far, to no avail.

Perhaps, being content with shooting any of these revolvers is enough and more productive inquiries should be directed toward better subjects.

This one has put me past my bed time!!!!

I wish I could put up a picture or two of my 7.5" .45Colt Blackhawk missing it's top strap and one third of it's cylinder from the the twelve o'clock to the 7 or 8 o'clock position. YEAH, ya' can blow up a Ruger SA. 260gr hardcast with about 21-22grs HS6 with a heavy crimp should do a pretty serious number on one.

Still need to send it back to Ruger and see what they say about it.
One of these days after I get some really good pictures of it for the Hunter Ed classes and NRA classes as well that I can do now.

Arron, what the heck ever prompted you to try a double powder charge?!?!?! According to the Lee manual a MAX load for HS6 in that cartridge with that bullet weight is about 10.7 grains (for regular loads). If you want more power you need a different powder.

Well........., I can tell you I sure as hell didn't WANT to try a double charge!

It kind of happened, and I was not smart enough to catch it and I did not get to "proof" the load and the guy who pulled the trigger graqbbed a few of those rounds before I realized it. And it went kB!!!!! I had been going for 14gr. While heavy, it was what I had used in that loading for a alot of rounds with no problems. What I think happened was that I bumped the table and shifted zero on the scale and when I did check it "was reading ok" so I did not re-set the scale. And there you have it. This happened about three years ago now almost to the day. It took me about three months to start to put rounds together again when I felt like I had my head back in the game.

Ive been reloading for a while and being real careful sometimes thats not enough. Ive been working in a factory for 30 years on and off a production line. And when you do something in repetion for any length for a long time you get what us mill rats call line hyphonis or how ever you spell it.Take a break check your dies and scales even when you know there set, stand up strech get a drink of water anything to break the routine,Youll be OK. i

When conducting reloading clinics, I emphasize the importance of always choosing a powder charge that is over 50% of case volume in order to preclude double charges. Reducing the possibility of errors is critical.

stovepipe: nice wheelguns, sir and nice pics. Thanks for posting.

skb2706: despite skipping the lesson, I see you have mastered the technique.

snipper: my urge to comment evaporated when I saw you were from Utah. Least you be offended, that is meant as a compliment.

My 2009 resolution to consolidate and upgrade existing firearms has now officially been rescinded and discarded. I held out for ten days. The 50th Anniversary S47 arrived last week, the 44 Spl BHK is due by mid February and the new LCR might arrive by then as well.

Sincerely, Ruger Slut
