Make the shoot as much fun as possible mate. Don't just punch holes in paper targets...balloons, reactive targets like swingers, falling plate type targets...anything that will give an instant return on the shot. Incorporate a little competition in there as well with a small prize at the end..."Who pays for Lunch/Dinner" etc. Give your mates wife something to really enjoy and forget about the negative side of firearms (which unfortunately does exist).

Most importantly, don't push her or put any pressure on her...let her go at her own pace...and NO heavy recoiling calibres. Good luck mate, with some luck you will if not win her over, hopefully change her attitude towards firearms some.

Well this afternoon went great with the wife's friend and I'm pretty sure we converted her from anti to pro.

Headed out to my buddy's farm today to introduce my neighbors (neighbor wife is anti-gun) to the world of firearms and shooting. I bought along the Stevens 22LR single shot Model 83 I bought last year at an auction and a 22LR auto. I went thru all the basics with safety glasses, ear muffs and the commandments of firearm safety. I than walked out 25 yards and stapled a target to plywood ahead of the berm. They got the hang of it pretty quick and were putting down some decent size groups of 1 1/2". Needless to say I wondered if I was ever going to shoot my gun and 1/2 brick later (225 rounds) they said they are defiantly going to buy a 22LR today. My wife says I created an intense rivalarly now because the neighbors wife says they will get matching his and hers 22LR rifles. BTW I shot 10 rounds. After some target shooting we played an interesting game of billiards with the 22LR.

Update: the neighbors just bought 2 Rem 597 22LR autoloaders and they told the wife to tell me they cannot wait to go out shooting next weekend. I do believe they are addicted. Very Happy

On a side note, I asked them if I could shoot their new 22LRs and they said yes as long as I bring the ammo.. Shocked After saying I don't care they had a good laugh and asked where they could buy more ammo!!

Game of Billiards anyone?

I smiled and said thank you for proving each of Snell's points. If you cannot be educated about a topic - Shut up. It is better to strenghten your argument rather than try to discredit the messenger or obfuscate his points.

Well written Dawg. It reminds me of a statement made to me by a teacher of mine when "I" was the one without education and it is a lesson that I have never forgotten...It is better to let someone think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt''
