That is a photo of Three finger Jack, Jefferson, Washington and way in the background is Mount Hood...
Yes...I grew up in Coos Bay and left Oregon in 1964 for the Navy. I would love to come home, but there is still a law against shooting californians...
Was this the way-station you were camp at?
I bet you went through McKenzie Bridge and started your journey at Foley Ridge Trail Head. You must have passed through Linton Meadows too.

Yup...Nice bowl...
And yes. I have around 13 years of the Three Sisters Wilderness. Made the trip on horse back ever year until I moved out here.
By the way these are the three sisters. Well 2 1/2 Sisters. Taken fro the base of Broken Top just above the Glacier Pool that is above Golden Lake.
If you want copies of these and others I'll send me your e-mail by PM...

Sorry Stovey...But you can't mountain bike in this area. On foot or horse back only...
You are correct about it being "gorgeous" though...

Suz, I'm impressed with the bowl! Wish I had the time and equipment to try that sometime.

Oh my! I bet that looks like molten gold when you get it finished. What's the finish going to be? One of my buddies just dragged over a 3"x10"x60" or 12/4 x10" x 5' of Butternut or some people call it white walnut but the proper name is Juglans Cinerea I don't know latin but all the walnuts start w Juglans. Juglans Regia=English, Juglans Nigra= American or Black. Isn't it amazing what you can learn reading American Rifleman? There's more but I won't bore you. Anyway he wants a 1850's Percussion fullstock. I always liked the Vincent's from Ohio so I'll probably use this as an excuse to do one like that only with iron hardware instead of brass or silver. They are a little early also but it's easier to pull off an earlier style in a later gun then visa -versa. It looks like you're a better Photographer then I am. I just can't hardly use a digital camera. I would love to see that bowl allpolished and oiled.

Well thank you all for the complements! I'm using some polishing wax on it, I tend to do them all that way because it's so easy. It's a real hard wax with rouge in it and you just hold it against the piece as it's turning, go all the way across it and then hold a rag against it till it gets burnished in. Just a quick thing to do, there are 2 rouges that you use sort of like an abrasive, burnish them in and then run over it with a clean soft cloth and you're done. The hard part is getting to sanding marks out before you do the wax. I'm not too good at that but i'm working on it. I tend to have a heavy hand with the scrapers and so I get a lot of tear-out to clean up. Light finishing touches with the scraper, and I don't always have the touch. I'm building a jig right now to finish up the bottoms of several bowls I've done. A very clever fellow from Australia I believe came up with a chuck just for that kind of thing and it's so simple in function if you want to look it over, HERE'S the plans. Hey Fnuser!! are you building the gunstock from the ground up? That would be a chore! I'll send some photos of the bowl when I get the bottom done. It's not really very golden, kind of blonde really but the colors vary from grey to black and blonde and tan. I have more of it to try out too. The slab I got has harder wood in it than I thought. There is a treatment you can use to firm up the spongy stuff, I know some guys use it on their heirloom driftboats that are rotting. You paint it on and it hardens the punky stuff sort of like super-glue I guess. Anyway keep up the good work your guns are beautiful!
Suz
