camel those superspeeds are just the ducks nuts. my norinco
(bruno copy) loves the superspeed and the power point will jam up sometimes or sheer off some lead while chambering.the winch subsonic 40gr hp is a good killer too I honestly believe it takes out possoms better than power point and Ive shot 1 or 2 of them mate. same with bunnies I too have done the shoot em for a dollar thing.

Winchester have always made quality, cheap .22 rimfire ammo here in Australia. I remember years ago I would use nothing other than a standard load called Rabbit Ammo...it was brilliant stuff. There is many a rabbit carcass rotted away around Wagga Wagga that I left there courtesy of Rabbit Ammo.
I use Power Points in my Krico .22 but only after trying many other brands and offerings...Remington Sub Sonic, Rem Thunderbolt, PMC, Dominion, Winchester Lazer, Win Power Point, CCI Blaser, CCI Stinger, Highland, Federal and others I can't remember and found that my Krico liked the Power Point better than most and as good as all. I also tried some of the pistol target ammo like T22 but it was too expensive for no real gain in accuracy.
I use Remington Sub Sonics exclusively in my Browning single shot .22 rifle, but even though they shoot ragged one hole 5 shot groups at 25 metres, they don't seem to hit rabbits hard enough beyond about 30 metres to give a consistent clean kill. I've retired this rifle to a plinker only now.
I'll stick with the Power Points...they do the job well in all of my .22 rifles (except the Browning) and they smack the bunnies hard. They are accurate enough for a clean head shot, although my dodgy right eye stops me from being as good a shot as I used to be in the past.
Cheers, Vince

Vince, never used the Swartklip subsonics? I think they don't produce them anymore, but if you still see a brick of this South-african stuff, don't hesitate.
And for hunting (which is sadly no longer allowed in the flemish part of Belgium) I did flatten the nose with a file (and a small guiding tool). Such a flat point makes smaller grouping and transports easier it's energy to the animal. I don't like a round nose in .22 LR for hunting (I do like them in the bigger calibers).

Well
I spent yesterday going over the 25/06 looking for anything I and 2 gunsmiths might have missed. Nothing obvious, nothing loose, I did how ever have a good look at the bedding and as the action is pillar bedded and the front of the action and area at the base of the barrel is epoxy bedded, once the action screws are done up nothing moves. I also took the opertunity to finese the trigger a little bit to remove a miniscule amount of creep I only notice when I trying to shoot good groups off the bench. Did the action screws up to 55 inlb.
I also loaded up 40 rds of the 120grn speer load that sometimes achieves .6", sometimes 1" and sometimes 2" depending upon when its shot.
The other thing I'm going to try is some factory 90 grainers, it occured to me that I've never ventured into the lighter projectiles and the possibility exists that the rifle just doesnt like the heavier projectiles.
Off to the range tomorrow.
Keep the info on .22 rimfire ammo you've had good results with in the CZ's comming.
Cheers

If you do go out and buy a new rifle I can't sing enough praise for the Tikka T3 series. I bought a Hunter model when they first came out, in 7mm08. Its bloody magic, shoots very well, effectively a Sako as they're made in the same factory, I put standard factory pills (Federal 140gn) and she shoots well under 1moa when I do my part. Drops animals on the spot, I haven't had to go looking for anything I have shot. As Elvis puts it - the ducks nuts!
My old .22 is a Sterling M20 made in the Philipines, a 15 shot semi, it loves Winchester Power Point and with a heavier than normal barrel shoots very well out to 100 meters.
An interesting thing I did several years ago was one of my kids wanted a science fair project so we shot the .22 with all sorts of ammo. 8 different brands and weights 10x5 shot groups out of each box, no cleaning between the 10 loads but a thorough clean between each brand, and the results were pretty unanimous PMC was 3mm behind Winchester at 15mm Average over 25 meters. Everything else opened up from there including Federal which spread out to 30 mm being one of the larger groups.
I had a ball shooting 400 rounds in a day.
Each weapon has its favorite load - find it and have fun.

Radar,
The tikka t3 in stainless laminate was on the very short list.
The credit card however came out for a CZ 550 in .308 this morning.
The difference in price will allow me to replace the barrel on the 25/06 for the same outlay.
I hadnt bought a new rifle in 30 years, I've managed 2 in the last week.
With luck I'll also win lotto tonight.
Camel, sorry mate you cant borrow the wife, I seem to have worn out the good will this week at any rate.

Thats ok mate, I dont think mine would allow another in the house anyway. Have just spent the last two days doing some modifications to a couple of thumbhole laminate stocks for both my CZs. They came up a treat, when I learn how, I will put some photos on here. Main prob for me is gettin the photos from camera to computer without loosing them, got a good track record doing that. Am going to try a few different ammos in the next couple of weeks, will just get some of everything the lgs has in stock. Let ya know how they go. Hope things work out with the 25/06, and am sure you will find the CZ550 a good purchase. A you all might have guessed I have a soft spot for Brno/CZ rifles. One of these days I might even stumble onto an older Brno Zkk 600 in 7x57 or similar. Hopefully soon. OK good luck, camel
