never realized just how this all added up... The world's largest army is...... America 's hunters! I had never thought aboutthis.... A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states andarrived at a striking conclusion: There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin .Allow me to restate that number..Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth largestarmy in the world. More men under arms than in Iran . More than in France and Germany combined. These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt withfirearms, and no one was killed.. That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods ofPennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters,All of whom have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishesthe fact that The hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largestarmy in the world. The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grownfirepower. Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of nationalsecurity.*************************************************That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed. Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

Brilliant observation mate. Now all you have to do is convince the moronic gun control lobby that this is the case.

It is widely believed that is a big part of the reason Japan never actually landed on the shores of Australia during WWII. It was apparently believed by Japan that pretty much ever house and home held at least one rifle, and all household members were competent in it's use. They weren't too far off the truth there.

Cheers, Vince

Years ago, during the cold war, the Russians stated that they figured they could defeat the U.S. military, but would never be able to defeat the country if they tried to invade for that same simple reason.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation estimates that there are 20.6 million active hunters in the United States.
Only 15% of the total Population within the United States participates in Hunting.
75% of the Population of the U.S. approves of Hunting.
* 25% of the U.S. population does not approve of Hunting.*.
. The United States is the Most Armed Country with 90 Guns per 100 People, making it the most heavily armed society in the World.
* U.S. Citizens own 270 Million of the Worlds 875 Million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey for 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.
* Only about 12% of Civilian weapons are thought to be registered with authorities.
*.. 225 Million are held by Law Enforcement, and Military Forces Worldwide.*

I have 17 myself Very Happy It would be interesting to count how much ammo is in civilian hands
