Someone always trys to come up with some new crackpot idea...I'll stick with the theory that if it shoots straight works good and puts the critter down fast thats plenty enough....

Ding-ding-ding-ding....we have a winnah!
Whatever did all the old timers do w/o all this over-flow of info...oh, right, they went out and shot stuff. Then ate it. That was easy!

Bingo, I have been using my 5-0-5 for many years and I myself don't see any need for electronic scales, etc. I myself think the marketers in manufacturing saw a light bulb light up and hence preceded to produce all these fantastic innovations.
I have been satisfied for 30 years using a mechanical scale and will continue to use it.
Now as far as bullet and powder design, yes I'm all for it.

You and Sarge make good points. Technology is great when it comes to product development. I sometimes wish I had an electronic scale...but beams dont need batteries.
But some of these theories and stories are a bit much, at least for a simple shooter like me. Esp when some recipes/calibers are over 100 y/o.
Philip @ Sierra had some good advice for me once..."Don't over think it, start here, work up slow and when yer barrel is happy with the load, bullet and distance to lands you'll know it in a heart beat."
Works for me!

Sorry guys! I started scanning the article into a PDF file but ran into a problem. I will give it another shot. As for the equations... He doesn't really give any, just some written descriptions as to how he figured it out.

you might be able to take a picture of the page(s) and post it if you camera has high enough resolution and you can compress the image to be less thatn 250K. A .jpg just makes the whole process easy.

OK, I've got it scanned into a PDF file. 4.8M file size. I don't know of a way to post it so if you're interested in reading it please send me a PM with your email address.

Ballistic balance,
That would be a good way to keep the editor off your back, fill a few pages in the mag, and continue the employment you have.
Is it relevant?
Well it helped sell a magazine, kept the wallet usefully full and filled a few pages on this forum.
Is it useful?
It may have a point, but theres lots of calibers out there that aren't in perfect ballistic balance that work just fine, if you the trigger puller does your bit.

Without having the benefit of knowing anything about it, I'd say Ballistic Ballance sounds like another solution in search of a problem. But, who knows, it may turn out to be useful. I don't think it's going to revolutionize the way we hunt and shoot, but some guy's love knowing all those little details. I'm OK with simple, if it works, stick with it.

Check with Dallan............it's possible he can use Hunting Nut as the host site for a PDF.
You could also try scanning it as a jpeg and posting as a pic.

maybe not with some coffee-left-ed materials.
PM maybe is the best way, specially with bunch of sceptic critics like we are.

I've been hoping they'd have the article on their website so I could just post a link but so far they haven't.

Don't bother posting this article on HuntingNut! PKSlinger sent it to me. We don't want to tarnish the quality of our website!!!!
I can't believe they published this article or even paid this guy for it!
Sorry, I'm not going to sugar coat it. Let me line up some more thoughts and I'll post them to explain.

Here is his premise
"A ballistically balanced load offers the most power and the flattest trajectory with the least amount of recoil in a sporting-weight rifle." ... "There are many ways to make these comparisons. One is to divide muzzle velocity by muzzle energy. the closer the results is to 1, the more balanced the cartridge. Numbers higher than 1 tend toward a velocity advantage. Numbers less than one show an energy advantage" ... "I made this calculation for the 16 cartridges shown in the graph (next page), using muzzle velocity and muzzle energy. Guess what?"
