|
There is an article in the July '11 "GunHunter" magazine about "Ballistic Balance". I was wondering if anyone else had read it. It is about figuring out how "balanced" your load and rifle are. I've been trying to figure out what the point was and how the author came up with these numbers he gives. At this point it just seems to be a not-so-real-world method to compare stuff.
The article says to take the velocity and divide it by the energy for one of the "relationships". Supposedly the closer this number is to 1 the better it is. The other "relationship" is between the recoil energy and the trajectory. I'm currently bumfuzzled altogether on that one. Finally you multiply the velocity/energy "relationship" by the recoil energy/trajectory "relationship" to get a number that, again, should be close to 1.
I'm curious as to what others of you think about it.

PKslinger, you're going to have to PM the article to me. There has got to be some other factors in his equations for this to make any sense since energy is velocity squared.

Slim, I couldn't find the article online. Maybe I can scan it into a text file tomorrow.

Roadjocky, it has nothing to do with the barrel vibrations. To be honest at this point I'm not sure what its for.

Well, the .308 has the "perfect" balance of 1... Sorry I haven't scanned the article yet, been kinda busy.

Hey Pumkin, if you don't have time to scan the article could you at least publish the equations from the author?

Ok, I have to say it. PKslinger, your as bad as (fill in the blank). You've peaked our interest then you left us high and dry.
