Hi friends been a long time no post (working to much). Was going through some of the load data again to come up with some different loads for the .308. My suggestion is to include the case manufacturer, and case weight due to the fact that there are many new to reloading and will take the data found and load away.... Some of the loads in the .308 catagory were at 107% of case capacity for my cases (federal and Lake city) Remember that we are in charge of a controled explosion we don't want it to become uncontroled.

Good point, and also reenforces the rule of always starting well below the maximum charge for any cartridge and working up.

I've always found the brass case is one of the biggest contributor to accuracy. Change the case with everyother aspect being the same and your POI and group size will change significantly. Lessons learned don't mix cases.

Savagenut, I should have written my post better. I agree, listing the brass component used in a load is important because ... I also found my .308 Federal cases didn't have as much capacity as other manufactures.

No problem there Jim. My federals are on the heavy side 178 and 179 grains... the lake city is also heavy 179/180gr vs some of the winchester brass I got rid of at 155 gr.

A good example as to why brass is such a critical component. You could load these two manufactuers' cases identically and the group-size and POI results would be so different you would wonder if they were loaded on the same planet. Internal pressures would be significantly higher in the Federal (higher weight = less internal volume).

Well Guys and Gals I am looking for some good load suggestions for a 300WSM. I am the designated chef for three of my buddies who all have purchased said calibre firearms within the last two months and They all want me to get them set up with some hunting loads. I am thinking of 165-200grain range for the types of game they will be hunting which is all of the ungulates in N America and also both great bears.
My Thanks in advance.
