I had talked to a good friend (Joe) of mine who owns 600 acres of land out here about doing some target shooting at his place instead of driving 60 miles to the nearest shooting range. There was no problem and he told me that anytime I wanted come out, and do it.
This morning I received a phone call that the wife answered at 7am and it was the wife of Joe who was hysterical on the phone that she lost 2 house cats and one jack russell pup
who was only 5 months old who were outside doing their thing earlier.
Turns out they were killed by what I thought were yotes, so I grabbed the 22-250, shells and loaded up the mp3 player with yote calls and headed out the door to his place. Joe accompanied me to set up the player about 700 yards from his house and then took to our stands up in a tree.
About 45 minutes after calling, we heard 2 shots
that came from his neighbors house, so we packed up everything and headed towards his place. Imagine our surprise when upon walking up to the neighbors there was a feral pig shot.
I have never seen a wild pig in this area and I did call the local game warden and he came out and took some samples of blood and asked us if it would be ok if he took the carcass back to his station and we said "go for it".
After talking with him for a little while, he said it's getting to be more of a problem in this area as of lately. He did say again if you see anymore to shoot on sight.
Just as we were finishing having a beer with the neighbors, Joe spots something moving out in the field about 4-500 yards away. Looking thru binoculars it was 3 yotes just at the edge of the timberline.
Needless to say, I think you know where I will be early tomorrow morning using my 22-250 using varget 34grs with hornady 60grs Vmax .
