After a long dry spell I finally called in and killed a coyote!

There is a real long story associated with this coyote. But I will post that in a bit.

.243 75 grain Remington Accutip 150 yards on the run... no exit wound. DRT - I love my old trusty rusty .243.

Just a little snow here which is part of the long story...

Rewind two weeks ago, I get a minute to slip back to a favorite honey hole I settled into a few minutes of the bunny blues and am rewarded with a hard charger coming across tall grass and snow in the river bottom. It is about 300 yards from the levee to where I am sitting and the coyote was bouncing straight to me like she was on a string. I had the thought "I wish I had this on camera... perfect set up perfect call in." I gave a woof at about 70 yards to stop her so she would not get into my scent cone. Settled the cross hairs and on my AR on the pump house and squeezed the trigger. The coyote just looked at me.... I fired again and she took off running. I did not waste another bullet as I did not even see any snow kick up when I fired. I took the rifle back and fired it at a target to find it was 12" high at 100 yards. I thought back and remembered the time a few days earlier when the rifle took a slow motion slide into the corner while I was cleaning it. I guess I had knoocked something loose.

Fast forward to today - We had about a foot of snow on Wednesday and a fresh 3 inches this morning. I worked around the ranch all morning and was looking forward to an afternoon of hunting. I set out to cruise some areas and look for tracks crossing the roads. I turned onto a back road that had only one set of tracks cut through and had not been plowed. When I was a good mile off of the main road the snow broke through and I stuck my truck on the skid plate and rear differential... Grrr... I called my nephew and he brought a friend and they about got stuck getting in to me. So I walked across a corn field to the land owners place and got him to fire up his back hoe and come dig me out.... I gave him $50 for his trouble and my nephew joined me hunting. We made a stand near where we were stuck and came up dry. We had a short time before sunset and decided to hit the honey hole and started driving that way. As we drove we saw a family trying to dig out a Toyota minivan that had run off of its lane and into a drift with a snow blower and kids shovels.. We pulled in and hooked up the tow chain and freed the van. My nephew says... "Good Karma".. even though the sun was slipping away as we made the extra stop. I agreed. never in too bug a hurry to give some one a hand

When we get to the honey hole the snow plows had buried the entrance so we have to walk a full mile back to the river bottom. The sun sets just as we settle in. I decided to use distress sounds again. Within two minutes I see the same female coyote approaching from the levee but I am unable to get a clear shot though some brush between us. I am hoping my nephew sees it and am relieved to hear the AR ring out. But the coyote took off heading back for the timber. I had to wait for her to clear the brush but put the crosshairs on her neck and Bang-Flop.

I guess my nephew was right. Good Karma... Oh BTW his shot found the top of the nose of the coyote.
