I expected that guy in the truck to get washed away, he was very lucky he got his truck out in time.

Vince,
Contacted family last nite. All good, theyre in Sunshine Coast and while getting the rain aren't getting the buildup of water. My Bro estimates about 150mm per day for the last 2 weeks. Their kids are going barmy being kept inside. Nailed a couple of creepy crawlies that have tried to come inside.
Yeah they're alright.
Look after youself

Vince, been reading news this morning, the dam is at 150% and more water is to came.

Would it be time to bug out now?
Keep us in touch mate..
We are sure getting a bit worried.

Imagine, there is a BUSH FIRE in South Australia, where QLD, WA and VIC is flooded..
Trully a big contradiction.

I see in the news that they've turned off the electricity in parts of Brisbane as a precaution during this flooding. I'm keeping Vince and the others in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everybody...I greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers...as I'm sure Tiks does as well.

The floods are not a problem for us where I am…well the water isn’t. Will have to wait and see if there are significant power cuts, but we don’t expect any at this time. Two of Brisbane’s Water Treatment plants may be affected…that may have an affect on us with water supplies, but not for very long. They say the floods should only last 24 – 36 hrs, so they should have the plants back online reasonably quickly. I have the ability to store about 60 litres of drinking water (have three 20 litre water jerries we had in Cairns as part of our cyclone kit) so again we will be good in that area. I also have a gas fridge in my camper van, and plenty of gas and kerosene lights if we loose power...and me PIG for cooking a steak or two. Very Happy Laughing

Our biggest concern now is our eldest daughter. She lives in a small town called Toogoolawah, and the town is totally cut off. She is just out of town on a farm at the moment, looking after a friend’s, and her, horses and can’t get back home. Luckily she had her three kids with her when she went out to feed the critters. Hopefully the flood waters won’t get to the house as it sits on a piece of high ground. They have plenty of food water and power, so they will just sit out the floods for as long as it takes. The surrounding floodwaters are only about four to five feet deep, so they won’t last long. There was initially some concern that there was a 3.5 metre wall of water headed their way from Toowoomba, but it chose an easier path and headed off towards Gatton, which is good for Toogoolawah.

Gelan...the dam is over 170% now and at that point there are automatic vents that open and reduce pressure, as well as the five floodgates. They are releasing more than the capacity of two Sydney Harbours every day. Its those waters that is exacerbating the flood problem here in Brisbane because all of that water comes down the river and straight through the centre of the city.

So…apart from all of that, we are just sitting here doing pretty much nothing because there isn’t many places we can get to because of flooded roads. I have a few beers to keep me occupied, will ration them down to max one a day and keep an eye on the rest of Brisbane in case there is something I can do to help others less fortunate than us.

Radar...don't hesitate to yell if there is something I can do to help your family mate. Same thing Tiks...if there is something I can do to help your Son In Law, don't hesitate to ask mate.

Cheers, Vince

Damn...of course...I have sufficient stocks here...but in my haste I forgot about the supplies at the campfire...well...hopefully they will hold out till things are squared away Down Under in wet, squelching, muddy Brisbane.

Us Aussies aren't the only ones suffering extremes of weather.

Got this from Keetowah this morning. Looks like the US has no shortage of extreme snow. Had an IM from a mate in NY last night...2" of snow an hour was falling at his place.

Too much snow over here as well. But it can be dealt with, flooding is a much more scary thought to me then a snow blizzard you can't see your hand in front of your face in (yes I've been in a couple).

Keep dry Vince and I wish you all down under the best for this flooding to end quickly.

Dimitri

Thanks 'Mitri. Yep, know what you mean about a blizzard...been in one, and a white out, before. Scary, but nowhere near as scary as a wall of water bearing down on you...unless that water is frozen and its an avalanche.
