I've been known to unload mine and use it as a climbing aid .........I swear them hills get steeper every year.
I love the looks of those fancy wood stocks and shiny deep blue jobs but stainless and synthetic makes a lot more sense in the real world.

Oh. Sorry.
I've been a little touchy lately. Please forgive.

Then bring out your own thread . somewhere else instead of the same BS as on the other Gun Forums .
You seem to be just stuck on your own agenda .
Try reading the last few comments on this thread .

Bought another 700 just the other day. It has a very light trigger but functions perfectly. I love them.

I modified my 1997 Remington 700 bolt to accept the older bolt locking safety with a Dremel tool and a cut-off wheel. It turned out great, tried to post a picture here but could not. Here is a link to a thread with a picture:

Im with you tcknight on gun care. my guns are workhorses not show ponies but they get a plurry good clean after. when I hunt out the beach we clean em when we get home then pull em back out of the cabinet 2 days after and clean the dreaded rust of any bits we missed.

Well those of you sitting in your chair and saying there is not a problem with any of the rifles have their heads in the sand . It's called denial !!
You just follow the safe rules of any gun , but take it from some one who had an unaltered cleaned regularly Reminton rifle, while loading a bind Mag with bullets .( No drop out Mag)
I closed the bolt and the gun went off . Well I thought it might have been the gloves I wore ( Hitting the trigger ) , but when this happened another year , and knew it was a bit more to this than "Human Error" It was sent to Remington , who repaired it with out a word, and to no expense to me .
Well I always practice safe muzzle control , but things do happen , and you can never call back a bullet as it is leaving the barrel .
And you know something , I used this gun at the range too firing maybe 200 rounds during the off season between the hunts . And never was there any issues with the rifle . So it was just going to happen when it finally did .
Yes Remington knew about the issue and never questioned a rifle brought in to them for repair , so there is probably yet a few model 700 as well as 600 and 660 rifles out there that could discharge .
All I ask anyone is have that remington checked out by a good smith or change it out for one of the newer units and just be done with it .
For those who insist there rifles never had a problem , well maybe they were corrected , but suppose maybe some day some one in your family takes a hit . then will you do something about your older Remington ?? |
Sad to say even though I am a proud owner of 4 Remingtons, I have had the same problem with my rifle accidently discharging. One of Remington's technicians who is also a peace officer did the repair on my malfunctioning 700 at no charge. As much as I'd love to say that this model is without flaw ...they are.
