I just returned from the range. I was shooting my custom .243 (description elsewhere on this forum). It has a 24" Krieger 1:12" twist barrel. I took with me 5 different over the counter loads to shoot today.

I shot for groups early and was getting some nice groups with my normal Remington 80 gr HP PL.

That is when I decided to check the point of impact of my other ammo compared to the Rem PL. I did not carry my cleaning supplies with me so what you see below is from a very dirty barrel.

Remington 80 Grain Hollow Point Power Lokts

I knew from my grouping tests that I had to move my scope 1/4" to left, which I forgot to do before shooting this group but did it before shooting any more. So, the point of Aim was red dot and 1/4" to right. You also see the results of the dirty barrel as my normal groups with this ammo is in the 1/2" to 3/4" range. This one is 1".

Remington Premier 75 Gr. Accutip-V Boat Tail

So, the Accutip 75 gr is essentially hitting in the exact same spot as the 80 gr HP PL (but better group out of dirty barrel huh? This one is 5/8").

Hornady Custom 75 gr HP

My gun does not like this ammo even from a clean barrel. Will print one on top of the other, then throw one 1 1/2" low or to the right. This one is exactly 2". Anyway, the Hornady is impacting at essentially the same as the Remington but a quarter inch lower.

Point of aim for both was the red dot. Keep in mind I did not touch the sope after my first group.

Cor Bon 70 gr Blitzking

Here again, 1/2" lower than the Remington control but essentially the same. So, far none of the 70gr to 80 gr bullets vary in windage! 0.75" group BTW.

So, I decide to throw a real wrench into things and drop down to a 55 grain bullet.

Federal Premium 55 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tip

wtf

The 55 grain bullet has the same point of impact as the Remington bullets but 1/4" to right! Another 5/8" group.

This may not surprise any of you guys but I was astounded that this gun essentially placed any bullet I put through it into the same bullseye.

Nice groups, tc! Looks like you had some good recoil therapy. No, wait, you were shooting light bullets out of a .243. Yes, good trigger time. You've got to love a rifle that can turn in consistent POI with various manufacture of OTS ammo.

Here is what I learned:

1: My barrel likes to be clean Crying or Very sad

2: My gun doesn't care what ammo you put through it. Maybe one click in some direction and yer ready to shoot Very Happy

3: 75 gr Accutip-V and 55 gr Ballistic tips are not as fussy about a dirty barrel. Shocked

4: I really like shooting this gun. Very Happy

Some notes: This test was conducted while shooting from a good rest and using a Lead Sled. So, grouping and group differences are real. As mentioned this was a dirty barrel, so group size is not representative of what I usually get out of this barrel.

I use to think this was something odd........it actually happens more than you think.

I first seen it happen with my Remington 700 30-06, factory 150-200 grain bullets would all impact within a 2" circle at 100 yards.
I've shot that gun enough to know in a worse case scenario I can put any factory load in it and hunt with confidence.

My 7mm08 is sighted in with 120gr B-Tips to impact just above a 1 inch orange dot at 100 yards.........150gr Partitions hit dead on.

And like your .243, my 6mm Remington does it even better......... and it's flatter shooting Nananana
