I have to tell you good folks about the splendid local master gunsmith who is also my good friend. This fellow can do anything when it comes to gunsmithing work. He is backed up with work because he is so good and his prices are very reasonable. I stopped in last evening to drop off a shotgun barrel that needed the full choke opened up a bit to modified. He assured me it would be done next week at little cost. Before I left, he asked if I waned the two items next to the counter. They turned out to be two Brazilian Mauser military rifle stocks that came off rifles he just bought for the actions. I asked the price and he told me to have a good day. Take care...

Count your good fortunes to have such a customer oriented gunsmith that does quality work.

Every good gunsmith I found was old, cantankerous and passed away shortly after I located them... There is a new one nearby, younger than me, that I'm going to try. I work with his brother, who is a good feller.

A "good" gunsmith is pretty easy to locate. A Master Gunsmith is almost imposible to find anymore. Most are just fellas who buy a class by mail and thats it! They are gunsmiths know......they think!

Joe is absolutely correct. I know the gunsmith he is talking about. Joe and I keep him in business. He was a machinist at Mack Trucks for years and got tired of being laid off. He always wanted to be a gunsmith and worked with some old timers who taught him the finer points of the trade. I am thrilled to have him as a neighbor and friend. All the best...

It's great to hear there are still a few "professionals" left in the trade. I just haven't found one. Earlier this year, I wanted to get a pump shotgun drilled and tapped for a scope base. I went to two different shops in my area, and both gave me feeling that my presence in there shop was an inconvenience that they would deal with when they were good and ready. Both were dispensing sagely advice to a group of cronies, and would try to get my shotgun back to me in "a couple weeks". I didn't use either one. I ended up asking a machinist friend of mine to help me. I know that if I need work done in the future, they won't be doing it.
