Sounds like a call to use CB Shorts.

My friend uses them in his backyard in Mesa, AZ (residential neighborhood) because he has a really bad pigeon problem. He has basically a 6 ft cinder block fence around his backyard so no one can see what he's doing and they are so quiet no one knows he's firing a gun.

From the reviews at Midway many people claim the high powered air rifles are louder than a CB short out of a .22 rifle. Out of a .22 pistol, they are supposed to sound like a cap gun. I believe they are essentially a .22 bullet fired by primer only, no powder. The reviews also claim them to be plenty lethal on squirrels out of 50 yards. At 25 yards or less I'd bet if you stuck a yote in the ear with one that it would get the job done.

If she could keep people from seeing the rifle in action, they probably would never know a gun was being used at all. Still wouldn't be legal though...

A trick that old-timers in VT used to completely quiet a .22 Mag bolt action:

Take the nipple from a baby pacifier and wire it over the muzzle of your .22 mag. barely makes a pop.

Is it not possible to built a trap and catch them alive? When you catch your neighbourg's dog or cat, you still can turn them lose.
and traps are fun to invent, built and use.

Great thought Aioysius
we have cage traps here in NZ that work for possom, cats etc and big ones for dogs they all work on the same idea a door is held up by a pin attached to a bait inside cage when the bait is pulled the pin comes out and door drops and locks. disposal of animal is easy and Im told a drop into a suitable depth of water for a few minutes is easy and no fuss if you dont wont to shoot etc. your old ma could always catchem then call the local athorities to dispose of... getting some use out of the $ she pays in rates etc.

That is a good idea Aloys...but aren't yotes very smart...wouldn't they pick up on a trap fairly quickly?

Apart from that...that is a brilliant idea.

Cheers, Vince

From this year on we are no longer allowed to shoot cats (often left when their masters go on vacation and they are a pest for small game). We are told they are better sterilized. Well, this time "they" are right: 15 minutes on 115 °C will do the job as good as a bullet.... Smile

And yes: we are still allowed to use such trap for foxes, only it's not allowed to use bait... so how do you spell "bar entrance" in foxlanguage?

the dog ranger when I grew up had a double cage and put a bitch on heat(in season) in one end the local dogs couldnt resist I dont know what bait would be as good but pre feeding them SHOULD get them used to the idea of coming in to the cage.
