No problem, I bought them for my 7 mag, I put a Lupy Vari-X III 4.5X14X50 long range on it and I needed to go to extra high rings. Take Care.

Went to pull the rings to inspect and measure for new ones after Monday's shoot. Cross-bolt was stuck and ZIP! the socket rounded out.

Here's an easy fix for this when your hex head bolt goes south on a Weaver ring.

UNLOAD and support your firearm to make the screw perpendicular as possible.

Round out the hex hole as much as possible, using the same wrench ya junked the bolt with is a good start.

Select a drill bit a little smaller than the bolt shank. Drill a pilot hole into the shank a few thou below the head, mark the depth on the bit with a piece of tape. Select another bit just slighlty larger than the bolt socket hex hole and drill to the same depth as your pilot hole- after you mark it for depth.

In one or two sucessive size progressions the head will come right off w/o any force and the ring will pop off the base.

Takes all of 5 mins.

Same proceedure applys to screws too, 'cept ya center punch the head to get the bit started.

Then, found the bolt slot in the bases took a battering when it shot loose the first time out. I also suspect the scope is too heavy for these alloy rings, the stock one was really light. The bases are also alloy, or pot metal. The gun is really nice fit, finish and otherwise. They really cheaped out on these rings and bases though. I really looked at these things closely. The tighter I made the cross-bolt the more it just sunk into the ring, that's why it kept shooting loose and needed re-torquing each session. I might be able to save the bases and re-straight cut the slot so the bolt can get full contact against the recoil lug again, but would rather have steel ones. I've looked through all the normal suppliers but am not familiar with base suppliers so...if you guys can suggest some heavy duty base suppliers to check out I'd really appreciate the help.

Here's some pics of the proccedure:

Just checked the Weaver site.... I think they have steel base's that are a direct bolt on. I forgot one of my notes at home but their descripton #'s look like #'s stamped on the bases on my rifle. Might have a match. Gonna email then...fingers crossed.

Weaver just e-mailed me back. They make direct replacements in STEEL for both bases and steel Grand Slam rings should I want to use those. I like the look of the cross-bolt on that Grand Slam, too. Might get them and a scope mount kit and lap the rings- yes, Chambered, you read right.

Man- great news. Kabonger's 'll be back in business in a jiff! I'm freakin' stoked.

Thank you sir!

I got lucky and it went smooth. I nailed the drilling dead center. Could have reused the ring but...shine that alloy, pot metal or whatever on this boomer.

I did some research and Kevin @ Weaver was a big help. I'm thinking per his suggestion matched bases/rings (Grand Slam cross-lock) that are a direct bolt-on upgrade replacement, in STEEL, no more light stuff.

I like steel.
