I think that I will order two more 8 round mags from this company.

8 rounds? What blasphemy is that?

www.midwayusa.com/view...ber=914892

If 922r is the problem. The 14 parts in a Saiga 308:
(1) Receiver
(2) Barrels
(3) Mounting blocks, trunnion (rifles only)
(4) Bolts
(5) Bolt carriers
(6) Gas pistons
(7) Triggers
(8) Hammers
(9) Disconnectors
(10) Buttstock
(11) Forearms, handguards
(12) Magazine bodies
(13) Followers
(14) Floorplates

The magazine counts as 3.

A new gas piston for 12$ which is another 1 part making you compliant.

But for heavens sake, no 8 round magazines.

The "Stud" is my Son Ben. [Anything but]
I had him in the duck blind calling ducks for me when he was five years old.

He was the 2008 Minnesota Duck Calling Champion, and finished in the top 25 at Stuttgart that year.

My younger Son Zach wants to use this .308 for deer hunting, and I just might let him.
He has been shooting lights out at the range with it.

sure looks good. if the deer your son are chasing arent huge elk like critters. try out some speer 130grn hp rounds as they are real naaasty and do the job very well with great explosive results big hole to let the daylight in.

165 gr Sierra Game Kings are idea for the 308Win.

Stick to the 150 to 170 gr weights otherwise the rifle will cycle improperly by short stroking or slamming the action back too hard. Powder selection is also important IMR military line and similar burning powders are best. I use Varget.

Elvis,

Most military rifles in 308 Win are meant to take 150gr loads but they all have a tolerance for slightly heavier loads. My M1A (the USGI M14) wont cycle if I am shooting 110gr to 130gr loads.

The issue stems from the port pressure in the gas system. Lighter bullets tend to have lower port pressures which become insufficient to cycle the action. While heavier bullets have higher port pressures which slam the action back. Slower and faster burning powders have similar effects.

Thanks for the heads up on reloads D.
If I do let Zach use this gun for hunting, I was planning on reloading 180gr, which would have not been too good for the rifle.

Most deer and moose will fall just well with a 165gr load. No real need for a 180gr load.

Most moose hunters I know out of 308's, 30-06's and 303's use 160-170gr loads. The guys with 300 Mags use 180gr.
