I was in Cabela's last night picking up some ammo and archery supplies. They now have a dedicated rack for old military rifles. They had a dozen K31s, some in excellent condition (hardly a scratch on their stock) and plenty of $99 Russian bolt-actions. They also had a 7.62x39 bolt action bull barrell rifle with French markings on it. Hadn't seen one like that before.
The K31s are really solid. I definitely would need a scope scope though.

I think Suz finally realized that such a swiss always comes with a ring, so or:
- problems with John
- problems with the K-31
- problems with both
- no problems at all and therefore no time to post
you can try to regain Suz's interest with a donut?

Actually I was e-mailed a very stale donut and choked it down with some hot coffee. (works for me) This target is what I shot with some Hornady factory rounds and then I placed a target dot in the #7 ring and shot off some reloads. I used H4831 @ 45gr with a 180grsp. Will bump it up some and see what happens. Iron sights are not for me so once I get a scope on it I'll shoot it some more. Money's the problem right now and I have to wait a while before I buy a mount. Also found a nice walnut stock at Bob's gun shop, very hard to find a sporter stock for it.

Ok, before we complement your shooting with iron sights, shall we assume 100 yards! I'd be interested in some pictures of the walnut stock. Sound like a great project.

Slimbo!! you have to be a stickler don't cha. Well it's a 100yd target at 50yds, so there....makes me grumpy to say so. The orange dot is the size of a quarter. Not fishin for compliments, just showin.....my age. I don't have the stock in question but here's a photo from the web site.
You can just see an old Indian woman at the butt end of that wood can't cha? Needs some finishing but for $110, I thought it would be very nice. The darned scope mounts are about as expensive too. It just wasn't made for a scope, but we have our ways.

Native women never age past twenty nine . They just get to know a bit more every year . At least this is happening to my wonderful wife .
She puts up with this old dutchman with hair before and aft his ears as there is not much happening on top anymore.

Hey Fn! Nope that stock is for a Swiss K31 believe it or not. Does it look funny? Supposed to be for a K-31....they're kinda hard to find too. I haven't contacted them about buying it, as I don't have the money right now. Hope it is what it's advertised as. Did I ever tell you how your new avatar makes you look so much younger than your last one? Well let me tell you........
Hi Fireball3 ! Thanks for the compliments, yeah old military rifles are fun and well worth the dollars. I always spend too much on them after the sale, but that's what I like to do. I have a vz24, $200 is a great price. Mine is matching numbers and walnut. It's a prize and a kick to shoot. I wanted to make a 8mm sporter out of a K-98 action I bought, because I liked the 8mm Mauser so much, but ended up with a .270. My gunsmith charmed me into it (bastard) but I love the .270 and it's very accurate. Now I have a turned down 8mm military barrel but no action to go with it. (someday....) Yeah I'd love to see the switch barrel, and see how it all goes together. The K-31 is a must-have. I kept seeing one or two at a local gun shop and they were in really beautiful condition but I waited too long and now the shop is out of business. They traded only in ex-military rifles and now they're gone. Had to buy mine over the internet. I bought mine at Allan's Armory and am very pleased with the transaction and the rifle. His prices are honest and so is his evaluation of condition on them.
Pleased to meetcha (I picked that up from gov.Palin)

If anyone is interested in a K-31, J+G is having a sale right now and they have quite a variety with prices anywhere from $199.95-$399.95. The ammunition isn't priced bad either, even if you just use it to stock up on brass.

Thanks BBBBBigBlue, if I could afford another one I'd get it. The one I got is very worthy of a new stock and so I finally ordered one. I got the scope on there now and it shoots like a dream.

I can certainly sympathize with your scoping the K-31. Every now and then I get another rifle and for some reason try to fool myself into believing I can still use iron sights. They are handier, sturdier and make the rifle lighter so it just makes more sense right? Well you know what they say, there's no fool like an old fool! Sorry to say, but my days of using iron sights are behind me.

I hate optics. Love open sights. It just feels and looks right on a lot of rifles. Same boat though for me... cant even see the sights on my old battle rifle anymore and it rarely comes out unless I use my Lyman pinhole device. Dang it, I miss gong bonging at different ranges with sliding leaves, there's nothing like it!
