Today was my son's 21st birthday. Its been a day he had waited to come around for some time because he enjoys beer when he can and even has a small brewing kit. After lunch he stopped by the grocery store on the way back to his apartment for supplies and proudly included his first 6-pack of dark beer. Later in the afternoon, he went to the library to study but couldn't get in because he didn't have his university ID nor his wallet. He called us and said his wallet was no where to be found. We helped him back track his steps over the phone. I called the credit card companies to make sure no unexpected charges had been made - all accounts were clear. Finals start tomorrow and wife was concerned the not-to-be-found wallet would be a detriment. So we told him to get back to studying, drove down to his apartment to add support, and a second set of eyes looking for the wallet so his could be on the books. My wife wasn't going to rest until it was found anyway so was happy to go along. We retraced all his steps, searched his truck, etc. - no luck. Then we opened the refridgerator and commented that he made his first beer purchase. Then looked again at the empty slot in the 6-pack - which housed his black wallet. My wife commented, "gives new meaning to the term cold hard cash, doesn't it?" It was a good laugh and an experience by which our son will remember his 21st birthday and first beer purchase.

Happy birthday to your son...

He is a good kid (young man)! He has joined the ARMY ROTC Program and is much more focused now then when he started college. I don't think he will forget where he put his wallet for a while.

He partied as much as he could Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with finals coming up this week. Then he is off to Army Airborne training the last week of this month. Should be an interesting summer for him.
