Trying to make a better go of it here. We've no snow what so ever. The Kuskokwim river has about foot of water on it and there is yet an other day of temps in the 40's. El Nino go home !

Wednesday the temps are suppose to drop and the thin layer of grease everyone else call mud will harden and then it's off for rabbits. This could be fun as they will be white against a perfectly brown background. Until we get some snow any hunting will have to be on foot.

Which isn't to bad actually but in a town of 5000 people where hunting is a way of life walking distance takes on a new meaning. I thank the creator for letting come to this magic place.

Maybe I'll have ptarmigan tomorrow.

Well guys, I spent the week on my farm in Mississippi. Was so lazy that I only hunted mornings twice but did hunt every afternoon. I saw plenty of deer, maybe 40 or so (including does and yearlings), but no real shooters. Since this will probably be the last time I get to hunt this year, I finally shot a 2 1/2 year old buck for the freezer. So, since I usually kill 3 or 4 each season, and one of those usually goes to the taxidermist, my season was really subpar. But, hey, I was out there and seeing it all. So I'm happy! Very Happy

For all of you guys still chasing them, GOOD LUCK!

got a red stag yesterday. had a large 8 point head in hard velvet. after all the flack I coped from my family for letting a stag go before this one got dead real quick. the hind quarters weighed 40kgs on there own. I got all the usable meat out and my butcher mate took pitty on me and came and cut it up for me.

ok vint2 after walking round in the bush for a couple of hours checking out a large jelly fern clearing we have found getting sick of the rain and the wind constantly changing round and blowing up my butt. I headed downhill till the scrub and gorse got too thick. I realised that a good grassy clearing was not too far above me. as I came out into it I stopped and wiped of the scope walked forward about 10steps and promptly slipped over on the wet grass.I picked myself up rechecked the scope[ misted over again] got out the cleaning cloth wiped it off took three steps forward looked down hill and saw stag looking up at me from about 75yrds. one 150grn speer grand slam through both lungs and he fell over without going more than 10 yrds. the antlers are in hard velvet so I hope they will be formed underneath. its a bit of a shame to shoot them before they are hard but man is the fat venison tasty.
