I've probably asked before but does anyone know where I can find an old style scope to compliment "Buffy"?

Wiersy, why don't you try Lyman? A few years ago (to be honnest: a lot of years ago) I got from them for their centennial anniversary a nice Ruger N°1 in 45/70 (in a nice box, filled with a lot of nice things). That rifle is equiped with optics they sold 100 years ago with external adjustment knobs. And every time you shoot, you have to pull the optics backwards in its slot. It's very long and very small diameter, has a 4x and despite all the tricks, it works just fine.
I think they made about a 1000 rifles like this, so with a little luck they still have some of these optics in stock.

And think about Unertl or copy-Unertl.
Watch what he's putting on his rifle to kill that German in the church tower:

www.youtube.com/watch?...re=related

they even put it on machine guns.

and when you could find a Lyman Targetspot scope, don't hesitate...

Seems as though there are a hole passel of you that, that like me are fascinated with the NEF/H&R. I found the recoil not to bad (of course if you want to he-man, GOOD LUCK. You can definately see the hole in the paper when yuo shoot. If you sta nd behind a shot you ca n see the bullet fly thru the air. Shooting from a bench set the receiver on the rest not the fore arm. Bad vertical stringing.

Vince if you get achance get a T/C 16.5 inch BBL.great as a pistol or carbine> Glad I FOUND THIS SITE> Unil next , the coffee was hot and thre stump sittable

I guess it's not my favorite rifle but them again it's the one I always think of first. Countless round in .223 and 22 Hornet have demonstrated to me it's a capable gun. Mine is not the most accurate but it does the deed when needed. for fox the 22 hornet is perfect.

It's always in my boat during the unfrozen time and often accompanies me on the sno-go in winter.

handi-rifles are just that.

Just got done putting some extra weight into Buffy's stock. Went to the local tire shop today and picked up some tire weights, melted them down and poured them into a 3/4" piece of copper. It defiantly made a difference it's up to a couple of ounces shy of 10 pounds. The best part is if I lose my mind and want some abuse I can pull it out in a couple of minutes. Thanks for the tip Gelan. Now to see what she can do!

Congrats wiersay!
You will be happy with it!!
With correct load, it will be a tack driver, grouping at less than 1.5 inch in 200 yards!!
I used mine to snipe at rabbits up to 100 meters away.

I put a small japanese 1.5 - 4 x 20 pistol scope on mine.
It does look Ok.
I also make a buffalo hide sock for the back stock to provide anchor point for sling.

I am thinking to make a little dovetail filler so I can get rid of the front sight.

I stepped out on the back deck tonight to see if the extra weight made a difference tonight. It was a very manageable recoil, I can handle putting a whole bunch of rounds through it now.

I'll take it out on New Years Day and give it the real test. It's supposed to be cold though, oh well I gotta bring the New Year in right.

Shooting off the bench is always harder on the shoulder. I cut an 8" piece of 3/4"copper pipe and melted lead to fill it up. If you remove the butt plate on the BC, the filled copper pipe fits into the stock bolt hole perfectly and adds enough weight to help at the bench. It's easily removed when you plan to carry the rifle in the field.
Those old fashioned scopes look great on the rifle, but their 3/4" tube is hard to get used to when we are used to much better modern scopes. Remember the old .22 scopes that had 3/4" tubes?

Advise to anyone wishing to add weight to their gun !!!
Any weight that is free to move can do some damage while getting bounced around under recoil. If at all possible affix your weight in a solid manner or fill any voids to limit and cushion any movement.
