|
I was out and about last weekend and happened to see the prettiest pair of jugs I have ever seen in my life! Luckily I had my camera with me and was able to get a few pictures. I thought some of you might like to see them...
Scroll down...
These are P-47 Thunderbolts, nicknamed "Jugs" (either because they are shaped like milk jugs or because they were "juggernauts"), from WW2. This pair is owed by a museum in TN and had flown in for a local airshow. Aren't they gorgeous!
Why? What were you thinking??

Thanx Mike, they are nice. I'd like to jump into one and go flying.

Used to attend air shows with my old man. It gave me an appriceation of The Greatest Generation and the ingenuity they had to have and the straight up guts.
I've always been partial to piston powered flight. There's some 'right' about it. It's more mechanical and more of a connection to/with the plane in my feelings. It also harkens from a better time with good people and alll that stuff....
I've always been facniated with radial engines too. I have very limited knowladge of them but they are simply facinating in theory and opperation. I've done work on some air cooled stuff at a machine shop I worked at, even made deliveries to the Chino Air Museum and there I ran amok and actually got a tour from a gent who showed me some very interesting behind the scenes items.
The sights, smells, sounds and people of piston powered flght is something I cannot get enough of.

I've mentioned before that Dad flew B-26 Marauders in the ETO. That is what sparked my interest in planes, history, etc.
Here are a few more pics from the air show.
