Hey wiersy, ya learning anything ???
I hope ya don’t mind the continual hi-jacking of this thread !!!
Did we answer your question or do we need to get back on track ???
Every now and then we gotta be reminded about these things!!!

This is good stuff!!! I don't think I'll know what 1911 I'll buy until I have it in my hand. All the other stuff is a bonus. I have my opinion about the light issue to, I'm not going to make a target by using a light. Night vision is still good.

Wiersy111. Be careful of all the pretty guns out there. I bought this Kimber to be my primary CCW carry pistol. It was purchased 10 months ago and carried when ever my eyes are open. That's from 0700 to 2400 every day, in or out of the house. Whether I am just walking around or working with a horse or chopping wood or working on one of my vehicles, rain or shine. And it shows it. It has proven to be very reliable, even with all the rough treatment it has received.
Choose wisely and choose for what you plan to do with it...

It will most likely be a GI or mil spec model the pretty ones look nice but like you said there will be some rough treatment.

Familiar is good but learning to handle something new is a challenge and keeps things interesting.

As I understand it "tactical reloads" (reloading when your able to before you empty your magazine) and "counting rounds" (so you never run dry) are valid things to do. I do believe both are taught as the proper thing to do now.
May not be everyone's cup of tea but you don't want to run dry while exposed trying to shoot back do you?

Then you need to take a serious look at Springfield. They have original GI models with 3,4,5" and have wood grips that are engraved with U.S. on them. You can shop around and find them for under $600.00. Take a look at budsgunshop.com.

I’ve owned and shot Springfield 1911’s, don’t care one bit for their guns.
I’ll admit though after handling and shooting their GI model I’d probably buy one if I wanted to go old school!!!

Stovepipe...Believe me. If you get one of those Colts (good choice by the way). The first thing you will want to do is get rid of those sights, And as usual I have an opinion on that too. Stay with fixed sights and go with Novak. If you will have a look at my Colt above (well somewhere back there) you will see Novak sights on it.
