Where's the friar when we need him?
Oh, yea....Vince, what the heck is a "mangle”?
I've heard that phrase used, but with wringer (as in old timey washing machine), inserted for mangle.
In that case, mangle would be a verb (as in to mangle) or an adjective, by adding "ed" as a suffix to describe the aftermath.

My mother had a "mangle". It was used to flatten (iron) bed sheets when being folding. It was at least 3 or 4 feet long (wide?) and motor driven...

Motor driven!!!!!!!!!! That sucker sounds scary! I got my hand caught in a washer wringer when I was about 5 years old, and that was bad enough. Those things were quick! I was up to the elbow in a split second. As my grandmother used to say: That's about as bad as being quiddled to death by a duck!

On top of all that, Cary. The rollers were heated...

You got it Cary...its the wringer on top of a washing machine or in some cases attached to the edge of the washing tubs.
So in this case "mangle" is a noun mate.
Cheers, Vince
