I read an interesting article once about rust on firearms, and being caused by the salt, acids, etc.,from your hands, and any other body parts that might touch the metal of your firearm. The best info that was given is that salt and other chemicals cannot be removed with oils, and that to remove the "contaminants"they had to be broken down/washed away with clean water. After that the "preservative /lubricants" of choice could be applied to the surfaces virtually eliminating rust when storing firearms.Another rust creator is when people store their guns in flexible gun cases with them zipped shut.Certain types seem to form rust on guns immediately-it is almost as if there is a electrolitic action created by certain fabrics, also people by zipping the guncases shut help trap moisture inside or cause moisure to collect on the metal and is trapped by the fabric when changes in temperature occur.Leave the zipper part way open and the gun case can breath.I have tried all kinds of anti rust products and I live in one of the wettest spots in the country-as Bushy can attest. Here in the pacific northwest(western oregon)the rain is as common as breathing, and after trying all kinds of gun dopes I have found that eezox will keep my guns from rusting longer than any other goop that I have ever found. This includes daily carry in a pants or shoulder rig and long arms exposed to rain.Take from this what you want-it works for me!
