Since 1959 I have never been without one or more 220 Swifts and currently have three sitting in the safe, the most recent being the Remington Classic. Bullets have improved over the years to the point that the Swift has become my mainstay rifle for mule deer and antelope; it's ability to take these animals cleanly and at distance only confirm the observations of PO Ackley and his use of the cartridge back in the Early Times. Today, it is even better.
On this past calling trip I chose the pre64 Swift which now wears a 2.5X8 Leupold. In two days of hard calling, six coyotes and one bobcat added to the count of animals this rifle has taken (it is on it's third barrel). Of course, it took 14 stands to achieve this. While one coyote was near 300yds, the rest were taken under 100yds, two under 40yds. Elk, deer and antelope were all seen along the way; it was great to just get out and breath fresh air!
This has been a good year for calling and I look forward to the coming winter months and the calling opportunities. Someday I will actually retire and devote a lot of time to the endeavor.
